methylated spirits

There was only a small amount of residue on the cpu itself and the heatsink was clogged up with dust. The blue paste was waxy to the touch and came clean off with just a few wipes. There is absoloutly nothing visible left there; was just wondering if there would be, like, a thin layer invisble to the naked eye that'd interfer with the conductivity. Looks like i'll be pinching some nail varnish remover just to be safe.

remember tim works on a microscopic level. so i always use npr or iso

SOme guy on Toms or anandtech wrote nails remover contains some additives that left on the cleaned surface might raise temperature a bit. Maybe they react with thermal grease, maybe there's another reason. I don't use it anymore anyways :)

I used it for nearly ten years, and in all that time if it made any difference i would put it at 1 or 2 degrees as the figures i were getting were fairly consistent with reported figures for the coolers being used.
