Metro 2039 announced

Weirdly took me 3 attempts to enjoy Exodus. And then I tried to replay it a couple of years later and hated it again haha - no idea why.

I do generally enjoy the series though so this should be interesting!

“METRO 2039 is the next landmark FPS from acclaimed storytellers, 4A Games. Journey into the dark heart of post-apocalyptic Moscow in a harrowing conflict for the very soul of the Metro.

The year is 2039. For a quarter century, the last survivors of nuclear war have been locked in bitter conflict deep in the Metro tunnels beneath the poisoned city of Moscow. Now, finally, they have been united by a single leader, a fanatical Spartan known as Hunter.

But this is no peace: Hunter’s Novoreich regime rules through propaganda and fear, subjugating the population in the name of a new war for the surface against a dark and terrifying enemy.

In the wilderness beyond the city, the reclusive Stranger is haunted by violent waking nightmares. When the ghosts of his past force him out of exile, he must undertake a harrowing journey into the shattered ruins of Moscow, to the one place he swore he’d never go. The Metro.

Experience the most shocking METRO adventure yet in a powerful single-player story that weaves exploration, survival, combat and stealth across a hauntingly beautiful but deadly world with unparalleled immersion.”

Well that is excellent timing. Metro 2033 got me back into PC gaming during COVID times, I recently upgraded my build to finish Last Light, and I’ve just started Exodus which am far looks glorious*

This and GTA6 on my new build, think I timed that well particularly before all the RAM and SSD pricing nonsense!

*Still trying to fix HDR properly :o

Depends on the price now. I enjoyed the others in this series but defo jumped on them later once the price dropped.

Metro Exodus was this first game I didn't finish and uninstalled. Just found it dull as dishwater.

It's just odd, I always finish games. Always. It still irks me that I just couldn't bring myself to carry on with it.

Was Exodus a different type of Metro game? I don't think I played any of the ones prior but always got the impression they were well liked.

Dunno. May look at it again sometime.

Yeah it was a good bit different too previous games since each level was pretty big and somewhat open world vs a pretty linear experience for most part, personally I still enjoyed Exodus a lot but 2033 is still my fave

What issues you having?
Just getting conflicting ideas on how to resolve the lifted blacks. The deep and dark command seems popular but is not a “proper” fix. So I went down the rabbit hole of ReShade which probably just confused things even more. Then someone suggested using RTX HDR which I couldn’t switch on :o

Tbh I played it with the command and was fine, actually made the game very much like the PS5 version in terms of HDR looks, you could try lilium black floor fix in Reshade too unless that's what you did try

Doubt.

The last game with full RT etc looked and ran great, this will be more of the same if not looking even better given the tech we have now. Unless your GPU is a bit weak :p
Ah thanks, for some reason thought it was a demanding game along with system requirements/optimising these days been up and down. My 3090 is getting old but she still got some grunt, more worried about my 9-year-old X370 motherboard going kaput :p.

I didn't try deepanddark, I got the impression it was a bodge? It was Lilium black floor fix but it didnt drop the blacks as much as it should have unless I was doing something wrong (first time using Reshade tbh), so I ended up fudging around with the gamma which was the arabbit hole I got stuck in :o

If there's a guide specific to Lilium's fix out there that'd be great. My monitor is the MSI MAG 271QP QD-OLED X28 so supports True Black 400.

Tbh from what I understand of the fix it just removes the games fake HDR look that it has in SDR

First games were a linear/corridor shooter kinda of an experience. Exodus was a bit open world (once you leave Moscow), with PoI and exploration. I can only fault it for the usual artificial scarcity that is in almost any game out there; other than that... I'd say is better than the previous games.
