Looks set to release a day before the iPhone 8, and sport some seriously impressive specs. The battery and 256GB option

The Mi Mix 2 is rumored to sport a 6.4-inch AMOLED display with a 2540x1440px resolution, and come in 128GB and 256GB storage options. Battery capacity is said to be 4,500mAh.

Only downside I can see is no Oreo, just 7.1.1.

I wonder if it will still be as difficult to get from UK sources as the Mix 1 was?

Update*

Wondering can come to an end, here it is:

Battery: 3400mAh
Body: Aluminium, with a Ceramic edition with 8GB RAM only. Alu versions have 6GB RAM and up to 256GB storage.

Compared to Mi mix 1, the Mix 2 offers a better screen to body ratio, but with a smaller screen, smaller battery, global 4G support.

Speculation is that the 256GB option will have 8GB RAM, although MacRumours seems to think the battery will be 3400mAh not 4500. A dual rear camera setup is also featuring.

We'll have to wait until the 11th to find out.

looks interesting but have Chinese phones matured yet, or do you still have to flash English roms, little to no updates and buggy software?
if it isn't 4500mah or high then gtfo. 3000mah batteries need to die.

Xiaomi phones use MIUI, which is actually pretty decent, if a little colourful. They have their own tweaks and features like Samsung/LG/Sony etc all do.

yeah ive used miui before as it a red not 2 or something like that, and it was one hell of a buggy phone which very much pt me off chinese phones. So many crashes both apps and phone and so many bugs. But that was what 2 possibly more years ago.

This looks like a really nice alternative, I've been debating upgrading my note 4 for a few months now. The emmc issues have me worried.

The eMMC problems don't inspire me either but the Note 4 is about as big as I'd want to go personally - this phone is a little over half an inch bigger I think.

Mi Mix was/is relatively easy to obtain, lot of importers on eBay using Ireland as a proxy so no import charges. Of course expect to pay the early adopters fee if you want one around launch. The white version is lovely, bit of a favourite along with the white Nokia N9 back in the day.

Some IP certification, headphone jack and decent XDA community support please - would be enough to tempt me away from a Note 8 purchase :D.

What about the LG V30 being announced at 7AM tomorrow at IFA? The Verge reckon it will be the show stealer this year. Maybe they';re right, maybe they're wrong. Only a few hours to go...

My interest in this is dwindle a bit, what I particularly liked about the original was the flat/square design of the bezels, it gave the phone a nice slab like feels and a clean cut to the display. The Mix 2 seems to be following the current trend of rounding the edges off slightly with the display sort of flowing over the sides, it's possible this is part of the design solution to maximise near bezel-less screens but personally I'm not so keen.

Also from past experiences with Xiaomi devices I'm not sure the camera will be able to compete with the other flagship devices, couple that with MIUI being somewhat of an acquired taste ( felt like a bit of an IOS/Android mashup ) and the assured high price tag I might just pass this one up.

I probably wouldn't worry about camera quality any more as they seem to be promoting it with Google as a flagship dual camera solution now.

The Mi 6 A1 just announced with dual cameras running stock Android as part of the Android One project, and is said to be one of the first phones to get Android P next year.

That phone will cost under $250.

I think we've reached a level where even budget phones from here on can and will have excellent camera sensors borrowed down from the flagship sibblings.

Also the Xiaomi CEO tweeted photos of the Mix 2 retail packaging and the photos were taken with the phone, which is rather promising given they alwere shot in medium light conditions.

Personally I think what differentiates cameras now will be smaller details like how wide a lens is, OIS/EIS quality and the like rather than ultimate image quality.

So looks like Xiaomi is going all out this year.

Today they announced the Mi A1, http://www.mi.com/in/mi-a1/

Check out the camera section along with the examples shot with it. That and the headphone amp can output enough power for 600ohm headphones, that's pretty insane for a phone at that price.

I'm half tempted to just buy one and keep updated as a DR solution for if my S8 ever breaks or needs to be sent away, or is sold before an upgrade and I need a side-phone to use in the meantime. It seems to be the perfect phone for anyone not wanting a flagship phone?
