A friend who is currently having his 205 rally car mapped at Emerald (Dave Walkers place) has just texted me to say it is now making 264bhp and 187lbft.

Not bad for a normally aspirated 1.9, makes those shoddy Honda VTEC engines look a bit feeble :D (that was a joke before the flames start).

Will see if I can get some pic's when they get back.

What kind of work has it had done? :)

Quite a lot as you'd imagine...

Touring car spec cam (cam cover had to be machined to clear the lobes  )
Dustbin lid sized valves (don't know actual size but looking down the inlet port they are virtualy touching).
Lovely porting job on head
Forged pistons
Steel rods (with stock crank)
Dry sumped
Jenvey throttle bodies
Emerald ECU
Ultralight steel flywheel with multi-plate clutch.

Not exactly a budget engine...but then again he's blown up 3 standard Mi16's in a row due to oil surge (running very sticky tyres) so decided to do it properly for this years events.

If RWD bellhousings were available I would would have chosen an Mi16 over a 20XE for my Locost, they are so light in comparison.

Sounds impressive.

However, Ive seen the beginning of a RWD 205 with impreza rear end & power... hmmmmmmmmm :D

was going to say that must have had a hell of a lot done to it to create that power, only normal weakness on mi is the inlet. The standard head is very good and a lot of head mods actually drop power on the mi so he really must have had someone who knows what they are doing working on it. and as you said about oil surge. that is the mi's downfall so its becomeing more common to dry sump them

only the 1.9 mi, the 2.0l is cast so weighs like a brick

Sorry i'm confused by your comment, are you saying the 2.0 is lighter?
no i am saying the 2l mi16 engine is a cast block therefore it weighs a lot, only the 1.9 mi16 is light
