Does anyone know if they have an age restriction on applicants?

I have looked on the website but cannot see anything on any of the jobs advertised. www.mi5careers.gov.uk

My father is looking for work when he comes back into the country, he has 25 years in the navy, weapons & explosives trained etc. He was a CO.

Do you think they would mark him as employable?

And unless you have anything constructive to say get lost.

thanks :)

I believe they do not have an age restirction, but they do have height restrictions

I'd imagine that your father's recruitment might be on an individual basis, given his background

I realise this might be seen as unhelpful but if your father has served 25 years in the Navy, and was a CO, he certainly wont need the help of OcUK to decide whether he can apply for a job.

Furthermore, I would have thought it unlikely if anyone here can offer anything more than meaningless speculation as to the answer to your question.

Height restrictions? I guess it depends on the role the guy is going for but the majority are office-based i would imagine.

i doubt anyone here has the knowledge that you're looking for, although i do also doubt theres a maximum age limit really. Just be warned that the developped vetting procedure (quite possibly required) for your dad would be an absolute nightmare. They would want to know everywhere you've been gone and done for the past 'your life'.

He wanted to know if there was an age restriction on applicants, as he is in his 40's. He wants to apply but couldn't find out about the age so asked me to do so as he has no internet in Spain, looked on the website and couldn't see. So considering the wide user base I thought I would ask here.

But people like you make that very un welcoming.

As I said, nothing to contribute possitivly - sod off

My mates dad applied, he must be at least 45, having spent 22 years in the Army.

He changed his mind, but the selection was awefully interesting - all the letters from MI5 come in envelopes disguising them as random building companies etc.

You have to keep everything to yourself though - not even your Wife/Kids can know.

Anyway, my point is, this chap was considered, even though he was older than most applicants probably are. I think it's individual though.

Might have known you'd take it the wrong way

My point was clear - it's not something that is set in stone, and it's not like getting a job with Tesco.

You could have answered your own question by clicking the cunningly titled FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) button, and then looking at the question entitled Are there any age restrictions?, which states:

"Yes. Entry requirements vary according to the role but for all positions you will need to be 18 years old, or above, to apply. At present, the retirement age for staff is 60."

which would tell you that there is no specific answer to your question.

To be honest, you don't deserve help after the attitude you displayed in this thread, but hey, I'm a nice person, and like pointing out the obvious to people.

Coz I still know him and he's definately still in the Army doing a regular job (unless when I see him go home he doesn't sleep and instead works all night doing MI5 shiz)

:) well I get fed up being hassled everytime you want to ask a question, this place is getting worse for it. It is GD

You are right, it is GD.

'General Discussion'

Not 'Personal source of people to google for you'.

You post a question, people discuss it, some people offer advice, others discuss that, etc etc - a discussion happens, and more often than not, you benefit from that by getting the answer you wanted.

Dictating the course of the thread and getting all worked up becuase it isnt taking your personally approved direction kinda isn't what 'general' means :p
