Hi, I have a GH4 and a bought a Rode Videomic Pro mic (not the +) a while back.

Its a good enough mic but just afraid of the battery in the mic running out unknowing to me.
Then the problem is, there is no sound recorded.
I know the new + version only uses the mic battery when the camera is powered up but
is there a mic someone could recommend that I could use with the GH4 that doesn't need a battery to power it?

Thanks.

Depends if your camera has a hot shoe? But have individually powered parts you have longer filming time.

I have the standard Rode mic. The light goes red when getting low, and the battery lasts forever.

Your Pro version says 70hrs off a 9V alkaline battery. Even if that 70hrs is at best, get a lithium and your hit a decent amount anyway. Go rechargeable 9volt and just charge everytime you charge your camera.

Has your camera got a sound sensitivity display available? That will also help if the mic suddenly broke or whatever.

As for recommendations, dunno. Seems like you're trying to fix something that isn't broke.

Your concern is valid but really unless it's your job it's not something to worry about. If it's your job then I doubt your be using a gh4 tbh.

In production we get around the ' what ifs' via redundancy. We always have at least two mics running sometimes more.

You dont want to touch mics that aren't powered but you could get the gh4 xlr adaptor which I assume must have at least 12v on the line. Meaning when paired with an xlr mic your camera has to be on to get sound.

Hi, no, the GH4 dosent have that feature. Aye, a new batter does last a long time and there shouldn’t be a problem.
Thanks

hi thanks, yes, it is my job, nothing wrong with using a GG4, I’ve used it a lot but my main camera is. PMW 350, that’s a good idea about the audio adapter, I forgot about that. Thanks all
