Hi folks. My second Razer Copperhead seems to be on the way out and I'm looking to replace it. Since I'm a lefty I've been looking at the Logitech MX610 for left-handed users. It seems a good mouse but I'm a bit concerned about one detail. It's cordless and works via a "USB mini reciever", or dongle, and I'm wondering whether this mini reciever is good enough. My only USB ports are on the back of my case and it's under the desk. Are there likely to be signal problems? Should I maybe have a hub on the desk? Any advice will be most appreciated. Things are never easy. I just recieved my new Logitech MX610 and after some problems all is running well...almost.

I had a lot of hassle installing the drivers and took some time to realize that the signal between the USB 'dongle' and the mouse was erratic. Luckily I have a couple of old mice lying around and was able to use an extension lead between the PS2 socket and the USB 'dongle'. This allowed me to have the dongle on the desk surface close to the mouse and now it's as smooth as butter.

On this mouse there are buttons for controlling the volume of your media player. I use Winamp and so tried the buttons out and nothing happened. I then thought maybe they only worked with Windows Media Player and so fired that up but the buttons still don't work. Within the Setpoint software there's an option to 'manage programs'. I've pointed it to the relevant exe's of both programs and they still don't work.

I'm at a loss how to fix this. Could it possibly be that the extension I'm connecting my USB dongle through isn't 'wired' to send this extra information?

I'd appreciate any ideas from anyone. Thanks in anticipation.
 
I's probably a software issue other than physical connection issue. Don't set the mice button to open an EXE, that's exactly what they'll do. If you set one of them to winamp, close winamp then hit the button - winamp should pop up.
 
I can rule out the possibility of a physical problem as I've just tried it out with the dongle straight into the PC and my mousepad on the floor. Everything else works fine, it's only the volume up/down and mute that don't work. I've tried removing the programs above in the 'manage programs' dialogue and still no joy. I'm confused.

It's already set to automatic I'm afraid. I'll try to contact Logitech today, once the hangover clears, ouch.
