Michelin close to Formula 1 return

Avon would have used their own tyres. They do currently supply race tyres all over the place. F3, F2, GT cars, IMSA Prototypes, as well as experience with classic F1 in the Thoroughbred Grand Prix and Euroboss.
Ah. I'd read that because they hadn't been in F1 for yonks they were planning to get Bridgestones and rebrand them then presumably get data from being back in F1 and after a season or two make their own tyres.

How stupid.

F1 died as a proper competitive sport long ago. It's just not.

It's a technology and tactic affair. Just open it wide up and let teams do whatever they want within loosely dictated boundaries with a set budget and let the best technological advancement win.

Who really watches F1 for racing these days?

Let them pick their own tyres, use whatever technology they want and even if the racing is boring/dead/non-existent the "sport" will further technological development faster.

Still no announcement? Taking them a long time. Tyres are a fundamental part of the design of the new cars as well?!

Well last I read was that it could take weeks or months since it's not FOTA that get to decide the tyres. It's up to the FIA & FOM to do it

This is going out to tender tomorrow, not sure how long they have to put in a bid.

So there isn't going to really be any difference from this year is they? Size stays the same, and it's still only one manufacturer. Maybe not a bad thing though, seeing how good the Canadian grand prix was with only one manufacturer.
