Can anyone advise which Micro ATX motherboard to buy for overclocking a Core 2 duo E6600 with GeIL (2x1GB) PC6400?

so far I have only seen these:
  • Asrock Conroe945G-DVI mATX
  • Abit SG95 SiS 662FX mATX
  • Asus P5B-VM mATX
  • Asus P5L-VM 1394 mATX
  • Asus P5LD2-VM DH mATX
  • EPoX EP-5P945C Intel 945P mATX

I'd like to know how the speed compares to a full ATX Gigabyte GA_965P_DS3
I'd really prefer to have a smaller system, but not at the expence of significant speed gains.

Thanks :-)

edit:

I've just read through a recent mATX post

looks like there are limited options at the moment.
  • Asrock Conroe945G DVI mATX - seems well specified and cheap, allowing me to upgrade should something significantly better come out in the future.
  • Asus P5L VM 1394 mATX - WJA96 seems to have overclocked this quite well

I'm in the same boat, decided to go for the Asrock Conroe945G for now as it good a good review and later on, upgrade to something more overclockable.

From what I can see, the only good overclocking Conroe board is the P5L-VM 1394 that WJA96 has.

It's not that any of these boards are poor at the actual overclocking, it's just that they lack the voltage options needed. Many won't let you take the RAM over 2V, which is a big problem. Vcore settings are also restrictive.

I'm hoping that when ATi and nVidia's new chipsets hit retail we'll have some boards to play with.

None of the current mATX boards are close to a DS3 for overclocking. If you can, wait for the Abit IB95. If that's no good either then I would get a full-size board. I'll be putting my P5L-VM on MM as soon as the Abit is available, provided it has all the right features.

I have to decide today really, I don't want to be without a pc.

1. get the asrock and wait for a good matx board like the Abit IB95
2. get the DS3, use my existing tower case and get a new psu (if required) then get an matx system in the future
3. get the DS3 & a new midi case and be done with it

all i ever seem to read is about overclocking lol

what about those of us that just want a good stable board that runs nice with zero probs and layout

tbh i have a sugo and dont like the way that power connector is placed on the asrock

hopefully the layout is only difficult and not imposible - are the other matx boards any better?

You're on the wrong forum then ;)

Also - there's no reason why a good overclocking board can't be stable, run nice and have zero probs with a good layout. A proper overclock is a stable one as far as I'm concerned. :)

...its just not to be

Yeah - I know - but I really want an mATX super-clocked system. Not for any particular reason other than to say 'I've done that, now what's next?'

best of luck :-)

which would you recommend then?

None of them at the moment. I'm praying that the IB-95 will come good. The ASRock 945 DVI is about as good as anything else if you need one now.
