Looking to update my aging Q6600 and was thinking about taking advantage of the Samsung green on today only. This will be placed in a Sugo SG01 along with a few ssd's and a 4890 i already have (upgrading graphics card at a later date)

Just wondering if this will work and hopefully allow a little overclock

Intel Core i5-3570K 3.40GHz (Ivybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor (77W) - Retail £179.99
Gigabyte Z77M-D3H Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Micro ATX Motherboard £86.99
Samsung Green (MV-3V4G3D/US) 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C11 1600MHz 30nm Dual Channel Kit £41.99
Silverstone SST-NT06-E CPU-Cooler £28.99

Total £338

Any advice welcome, willing to up budget to £400 if it's worthwhile

Lego, your spec looks great as it is.

I don't see the point of going for a Gene or a sniper. The OC you get on the CPU in that case will be limited anyway. Small cases get hotter and stay hotter. So the extra 200-400mhz you may get using those boards won't be used as the temps will be too high anyway.

That cooler looks good. I assume you have checked it fits fine in your case. I don't see why it wouldn't. Have you got a fan to go on it? That may let you OC a little more, if that's what you want to do.

I love mATX builds. :)

Thanks doomed, was the reason I picked it. The heatsink is cooled by the psu fan, which is why I'm not looking for a huge overclock. Stuck my 6600 on 3ghz day one and it's still running fine.

Nice.

Won't get a huge overclock, if any really. though i don't you'll need it. That i5 will be a big improvement on your current CPU. Will just help keep the system nice a quiet.

Heat and Noise wise, the sooner you replace the GPU as well, the better. Do they live up to their billing of being hot and noisy?

I have the vapour-x so it's almost silent on idle at about 55. Does get into the 80's under heavy load though!
