My monitor no longer powers on. I've opened it up to find a ceramic 5mm micro fuse has blown.

I've searched high and low and just can't find a replacement.

Does anyone know where i'd find one? Its a 5mm 2.5a ceramic micro fuse.

Thanks

A picture would be great :-)

The regular ones your are talking about are actually 25.4 mm in length:

I know you say its 5mm in total length, do you mean width by any chance :), these are 5x20mm:

otherwise it could be one of those nasty HRC fuses. there alien to me.

if all else fails, you could try something like:

or just get a 2.5amp rated 'wire' (yes its just a naked wire rated to break/melt with surge > 2.5amp) and attach to connectors using solder or if you prefer some tiny crocodile clips

That looks exactly like a standard 20mm fuse.

Looking at the IC next to it (PWM Controller) the scale looks pretty much right for a 20mm x 5mm fuse. (The 8-pin DIP package is 9.0mm - 9.5mm across)

lol i'm not lying. It looks the same but it's not, it's miniature. Its from a HP W2207

It's seriously nowhere near 2cm (20mm) long.

I've had it in my hand and took it to a well known high-street electronic places that also sells PC components, but even the smallest they do is 10mm.

I have checked the catalogues at work and I cannont find anything that has soldered legs that is that small. If you have it out of the board can you put a phot of it against a ruler or something?

What Ian_Eb means is that the PWM unit IS about 6mm x 9mm. Unless it's some kind of custom module.

You can get the spec sheet here, dimensions shown at page 8:

Furthermore, all the other components, wires and holes are also around the same size scale, so either they are also miniaturized versions, or you have the scale wrong. Check with a ruler?

In addition, what is the connector on the left? If the fuse is 5mm, the connector is max 1-1.5 cm. The shape seems like the power connector to me, which should be about 3cm, which is more in line with the 5mm x 20mm fuse for scale...?

I looks like an IEC connector to me, so going by that I'm also going to say that the fuse is 20-25mm long.

As the old fuse needs replaceing, you may as well de-solder it. Once it's removed you can hold it up alongside a ruler and prove us all wrong! :p

The fuse was soldered to the holder, one end of which fell off when i took the fuse off.

5x20mm is the size of a regular plug fuse. I'll have a look for it when i get back from work and take a pick with some reference.

Yes the connector on the left is a standard 3 pin power adaptor

If the fuse is the size you say it is the letters on the board and components would have to be what, 0.2-0.3 mm across? That's pretty small. Plus you've said that connector nearby is a 3 pin kettle plug. They aren't that small! Also, googling the 't3 15a h 250v' code underneath it appears to be a standard sized fuse, rated for 3.15 amps at 250 volts. No mention anywhere of it being an unusual size, and one forum thread specifically states that it's 20mmx5mm. There's a lot of evidence against what you're saying.
