In all my years of posting on message boards and bbs I have never had any objections from anyone for using the terms Micro$haft or Micro$oft.

I did make a post yesterday using one of those words and I now feel as outcast as Ron Atkinson.

Who has the right to call me 'childish' and 'immature' because I choose to type Microsoft in a way I see that corporation?

I thought the youth of today were as rebellious as in my younger days but it seems they are not: they are more caring of company images and prefer to launch disrespectful attacks on individuals!

I know there is no such thing as free speech on message boards, and I know that there are many words you just can not post.

But really - is it such a taboo to call Microsoft Micro$haft?
 
It's not a taboo, it just makes anyone using the term look stupid (not that I'm saying you are), in the same way people saying 'bliar' does. It might have been slightly funny/original the first time but everyone has heard it now and it's just annoying. :)
 
if its annoying click the back button. there's a lot of childish posters on these forums and it's almost as if you cant get away from them. they need to grow up
 
So is it the case that anyone with a view on something be it:

Microsoft
Blair
CND
Esso
Huntingdon Life Sciences
Margaret Thatcher
Saddam Hussein
Monsanto
Guantanamo Bay
Fox Hunters

is immature if they choose to state any of the above in not the exact name they are meant to be?

Can anyone suggest how I can show my disapproval of Microsoft on occassions where I have to mention their name?

Or am I not allowed to disapprove of them in the first place?
 
Think of it as the following:

"In recent news Microsoft ( :rolleyes: ) stated that.."

Whilst showing your disaproval, to any one else it looks like you have an innapropriate bias and are displaying it in a supremely childish way.

Whether you wish to be viewed as such, is up to you.
 
If you don't like Microsoft for immoral business practices or something, then you are free to say why. Simply saying 'm$' doesn't really mean anything, and yes, it is a bit immature.
 
Call it whatever you want but remember people will judge you for it, just as you have judged the company/person/whatever.

You say Microsoft screws over customers, I say they are in a position that most companies would love to be in and would probably act exactly the same in. That doesn't mean I approve of Microsoft in general or their practices often but they also aren't just a big bad immoral company doing things differently to how any other company would, they just happen to be wildly more successful at it than most.

If you want to display your displeasure with Microsoft why not do it with a coherant and reasoned discussion of their failings (of which there are many so it should be fairly easy) rather than changing letters in the company name which just looks a bit silly to me. :)

If you want to disapprove of Microsoft use the world Microsoft and maybe people will listen more

So basically you want the freedom to disparage Microsoft in anyway you see fit but you want to deny people the freedom to disagree with you and the way you do it?

Bang on, you talk about free speech but dont want to hear peoples disproval
 
If you have a problem with Microsoft then don't use their products. It's pathetic using "M$" when you could simply switch to say Apple Mac or Linux and forget Microsoft ever existed.

Still... most reasons you can come up with for hating Microsoft can and will be quickly discounted by older people who know how the world works and know that Microsoft are probably one of the 'friendliest' companies in the industry at the moment - waaaaaayyy above Google or Apple anyway.
