Micro$haft

It's not a taboo, it just makes anyone using the term look stupid (not that I'm saying you are), in the same way people saying 'bliar' does. It might have been slightly funny/original the first time but everyone has heard it now and it's just annoying. :)
FACT :)

Microsoft is one of the greatest companies in the world, that's a fact

I get really annoyed at those gimps that talk crap about them, when they are legendary!

oh, and saying microshaft or whatever, just makes you look like one of those lame linux geeks that every school has

It's all very well and good ranting about them, saying they're crap and a waste of space etc, but what makes me laugh is when you ask these ranters what operating system they use.

"Windows XP, err but.. but.."

If you have a problem with Microsoft then don't use their products. It's pathetic using "M$" when you could simply switch to say Apple Mac or Linux and forget Microsoft ever existed.

Still... most reasons you can come up with for hating Microsoft can and will be quickly discounted by older people who know how the world works and know that Microsoft are probably one of the 'friendliest' companies in the industry at the moment - waaaaaayyy above Google or Apple anyway.

Exactly. In theory the only Microsoft bashing should be in the Mac or Linux/Open Source forums.

So in summary if you thought coming here to post the same question would get you a different answer it seems you'll be disappointed.

As has been explained several times in the other thread, you're free to dislike Microsoft, and presumably back that up by using one the excellent Linux distros or OSX with no problem. OCUK has a very strong (and on occasion vocal ;)) community that supports alternatives to using a MS OS (until they get assimilated anyway :p ). You were challenged because "Micro$shaft" might have drawn a chuckle the first time someone used it 10 years ago or so, now it just make you look a bit silly (it doesn't help it's not even spelt right in your original post).

You made a contentious and frankly derogatory comment (which is of course you prerogative) and then got stroppy when you were challenged on it. You just came across as saying free speach is OK as long as it's only for people that agree with you.

Anyway, two threads and plenty of posts later I'm guessing you have your answer

*waits for a third thread to be started in the Apple forum in a desperate bid for vindication* :D

But really - is it such a taboo to call Microsoft Micro$haft?
No, but it does make the poster look like a complete idiot. Either that or a 13 year old who reads too much Slashdot and has just discovered Linux for the first time.

Micro$haft?

it's very outdated and sily. unless you explain why. then 99% of the time you'll be shot down.

Microsoft was voted number one brand in England.
Made the pc what it is today
Make very reliable easy to use OSs and integrated software.

Most people who say Microshaft are simply jumping on a band wagon.

I thought 'M$' was used to identify Microsoft on those forums where piracy is encouraged in the pretense that replacing the 'S' with a dollar sign somehow gets them out of any legal problems that may arise!

From my point of view, it is silly and "childish" for the very same reason namecalling is childish, its trying to get across feelings for something without actually articulating the reasoning.

I think the reason people no longer use things such as Micro$haft is because as a generation we are getting sick and tired of internet "geekery" on the whole and hating an entire faceless corporation (who it could be argued are the reason the computing scene we all love is as popular as it is.. but thats a different argument) is a very "keyboard warrior" reaction and doesnt serve much purpose.

On the other hand, had I seen it typed in your post, I would have thought all of the above and then not mentioned it in any subsequent post ;)

People do still say Micro$haft, it's just you don't see it because you're not fourteen anymore.

Thats very possible, my 15 year old step brothers MSN names are so annoying to even look at I had to block him and delete his contact...

If getting older means finding internet speak annoying then bring it on ;)
