Micro-SIM card adaptors

Anyone had any experience of these not working?

I need to send my Note 2 off for repair, and was planning on putting my sim in an old (unlocked) phone which takes a full size sim.

I have bought a micro-SIM adaptor, something like this:

the SIM card seems to click in ok, but the SIM is not being recognised on the 2 phones I have tried so far. Any reason why this shouldnt work? Have any of you had this issue and successfully resolved it?

I have a couple of adaptors similar to the one shown and I've even used the "frame" you get when using the stapler type sim cutter, all have worked, i had one jam when a bit popped out making a barb but that was sorted in seconds with a very thin shim i made.

For some reason, my sim is not working with any of the older/cheaper handsets I have tried. It does work with an iphone 3s though. I am on 3 mobile, is there something weird about 3 mobile that would mean their sims only work with smartphones.

What phones are they? Perhaps they need the older type SIMs with a wider surface contact?:

I'm not even sure if any network still does the old style contacts.

perhaps, but one of the phones is a samsung gt e115, which was bought in the last couple of years.

Is the phone that's not working with the sim a 3G phone? IIRC 3 sims only work in 3G phones?

yeah i am thinking that must be the issue, the phones that wont work are all probably non 3g.

Yeah just checked that Samsung phone, it's 2G only and 3 is a 3G/4G network...
