Much to the annoyance of my fellow purchasers I am very much so into my house music, and have starting mixing on my PC. So as the avid audio nut in the office I decided to get a set of Solo7C speakers and review them.
Anyway onto the review now!
Packaging!
The Box is huge. The side of the box shows the gross weight as over 22kg and the net weight is 21kg. I thought to myself "this is a set of 2.0 speakers" why so heavy! These must be good. So I open the box and low and behold a second thinner box for added protection. Couriers do your worst!
Opening the inner box and you see a polystyrene insert acorss the entire top of the box, it is this tough poly which can take an impact, I remove this carefully to reveal the two speakers! Immense it all that I can say. The box houses the two speakers, a 4 page manual (which got thrown back into the box lol) and the neccessary cables and a remote control.
Setup!
First I removed the plastic bags from each speaker and noted that the tweeter has a protective plastic insert which has to be removed for usage. So I removed that and positioned them on my desk. I then connected up the wires to the speakers. You have a RCA to 3.5mm for your PC. The speaker with the built in amp has dual RCA inputs labelled PC and AUX so you have the option for dual inputs. Great! I then connected up the speaker cable to connect the amped speaker to the other speaker, this was a very good thick cable with protection bud on either end as you can see in the below pics.
Looks
These speakers really do look the business, they are made from what I can only assume is MDF wood, and coated to give a truely ace looking finish in dark wood. As you can see these speakers are not small. My monitor 24" and my PC case is a BitFenix Colossus so if you want to buy a pair for these make sure you have checked that you have the space
Here are the pics. They say far more than I can write. Also please no comments about the pink peripherals, they are connected to my wifes PC not mine
Remote Control
The remote control is something which I was dreading to be honest, I had heard bad things about the remote control unit, however I was pleasantly surprised. The unit itself looks nice with a brushed aluminium finish and the buttons feel very rugid indeed. It is powered by a small watch style battery which is included. I previously have owned a set of the SOLO6C's and the remote control unit from that actually worked too, so now I have two remotes which work.

Audio Quality
Well the clarity of the speakers are brilliant, they offer great high frequency tones and rich deep tones. The only thing is that the speakers do not have a dedicated subwoofer as it is a set of 2.0 speakers so the thump is lacking a little bit, but generally these do produce great low frequency sounds. I have spend some time listening to a bit of old skool garage to test out the low frequencies. I have listened to quite a lot of trance for the high ranges and I have watched the starting scene from Saving Private Ryan on BluRay as this has epic audio with the gun shots, screams and bombs going off I spent an hour played Battlefield 3 with these and they offer great audio direction sound. All in all I am impressed with these, they seem to offer a slightly richer experience compared to his little brother the Solo6C's which also have great audio qualities, but these just offer a little more punch, and a possible higher value.
Pro's
- The quality and finish of the speaker box itself is great and looks ace
- The tone/pitch range is great
- Volume is excellent
- Remote control so you can adjust bass and treble using it
- The cables are very good quality
Con's
- You really need a good sound card to get the best from them
- Real deep bass is lacking a little due to no woofer
- Maybe too big for some desks
Conclusion
These speakers are excellent in general they offer a great 2.0 set of speakers with a great range of high and low tone reproduction. If you are looking for a set of blasting heavy bass tones then you may not want to look at these as their is a lack of dedicated subwoofer, but for clarity and quality these are some of the best on the market. Music, Games and Films all sound amazing on these. I did try these on my wifes PC, so uses onboard sound and the quality was not quite as good, but that was to be expected. A true high end sound card does set these off.
