Micropubs

Howdy Gents, + ladies....

We have a micropub that opened this year in my little town, its very small, has a cold room for beer poured straight from the barrel ( air con room) and supplies beers you never see anywhere else.

I visited tonight for my second time and its decent! very nice beers local brewed and so on.

Do you guys visit any micropubs? fans or?

Personally it got my mind going, i run my own business but i could invest in something like this, i lack knowledge etc but love the idea of it, the place locally is booming and i can see ways of improving too.

Never heard of a micropub, but craft brewries/pubs are becoming increasingly popular in the UK. Thankfully, saves me drinking **** beer all the time.

Once or twice a month I visit a microbewery, i'm lucky to live in the US where microbreweries are almost as common as starbucks.

All the breweries are extremely busy around here, you have to stand inevitable and can wait 2-3 hours for a dinner table. They keep relocating to bigger premises and new ones pop up every few months it seems. I kind of think there is a bubble that will pop here though.

Ones just opener up near me, haven't been but I don't understand the concept?
What's the rage/bonus with them? Or is it just comparatively cheap start up cost for the owner?

Unique beers generally served by people that care? Seems decent to me.

Plenty of pubs do that.
Had a hideout brewery- bubble tonight it was even draught.

I think a micropub and a microbrewery/pub are different things. At least from my googlefu

Yeah, I have a micropub near me. Excellent place. Great well kept beer, cosy and good chat. You walk in, sit down and within minutes you're involved in conversation with the rest as though you have been a regular for donkeys years.

Two opened near me selling local brewed beers and obscure foreign larger both very nice!

Love how America is trying to claim 'craft' and micro brewing when both trends clearly born in the uk when all the big regional breweries closed!

Visited a few when I lived in Milwaukee, most of the time it was a small warehouse with a built in bar. Suppose it's nice to sit there and chat to the owners who can normally tell you exactly what went into the beer and how it's made. It does feel more like a community thing, if you just want good beer then there are plenty of bars nowadays that offer a variety of just about everything.

There's quite a good one in Nottingham called The Barrel Drop - nice and friendly and every now and then have free grub on.

We have one in Bristol called Zero Degrees, they make their beer on-site I believe and have some decent ones including some dunkel style. Seems like they actually have a few branches - http://www.zerodegrees.co.uk/

Where is America trying to "claim" anything about craft/micro breweries. They just happen to be incredibly popular in the US, much more so than the UK.

While it may have originated here like many other things somewhere else has picked it up and done it much better.

Error I'm afraid - Zero Degrees is a brewpub (and a rather large one at that).

We have The Snug at Carnforth railway station. Amazing place, went to their beer fest a few weekends ago. A 40 piece ukelele orchestra playing to the punters on the platform with trains bezzing past... surreal.

The best thing about this trend is it allows people to start up independently of the major chains (Punch, Enterprise, etc.) thanks to the low costs.
