Microsoft allows bypass of Vista activation

Excellent now people dont have to waste their time with that activation crap.

Didnt have to waste time activating my Vista-Ultimate retail as it did it automatically with out my intervention :)

When that happens people will start hosting the updates themselves or they will be on torrents, which was the case with xp.

I actually know people who have had a pirated version of xp and wga validated it!

for now it will allow for updates but MS will do something like xp with the Microsoft Genuine Advantage program or something..

There are many many computers running XP that have dl'ed the Genuine Advantage tool and are still getting updates and have done for a long time. This type of thing will be an ongoing battle just like viruses, you write a virus they finds a cure, so to speak

Cheers

So those who do activate are forced to reactivate because they have upgraded their bios, a stick of ram, or made some other hardware change whilst it appears your better of not activating in the first place.

MS really played the ball well with WGA in Vista. Hammer the genuine guy, whilst the those who pirate and hack and crack vista are laughing. Just goes to show that MS is completely run by lawyers and has lost the plot.

I was actually going to go legal today, with the half price vista upgrade but after, the "shipping" and "customs" is was £42 which I can't afford. It's a complete joke, the boxed 64-bit version only costs £50.

i have vista home premium oem. i don't mind activateing and reactivateing when i upgrade a hdd or cpu or graphic card, it only takes 5mins.

That's cool is you don't mind having to prove your innocence whilst the guilty never get asked in the first place.

i don't have to prove. the answer mechanic thing asks only about 3 questions then a person comes on then that person just asks how many computers is it running on then i answer 1 then the person says ok then the person gave the reactivate id numbers

I know - nice and simple isn't it?
You'd have thought as we've had PA around for a while now people would understand just how easy and straight forward it is.
Nine times out of ten PA takes 2-3 minutes, on occasion it might take 5.
Ooooo - tough.
And please don't start using all this "Innocent are asked questions and guilty are never asked" etc as some kind of justification.
I'm 31 and over the years I've been stopped by the police now and again for no "real" reason - on the street or in a car.
Do I get all upset?
No, I just answer their questions and because I know I've got nothing to hide after a couple of minutes I'm on my way - no point getting upset.
PA is no different.

So you're a self confessed pirate, you decide you are happy to use something but "can't afford it" so you nick it. Nice.... You're a class act mate... Wouldn't want to know you in real life in case you decided you liked the look of some of my stuff, couldn't afford it so just nicked it... I take it you'd view shoplifting as a career aspiration.

So you post on OCUK forums on how you think it's cool to have done OCUK/SPIE out of a Vista sale... Durrrrrhhhhh

I take the simple concept of honesty and if you can't afford it either save for it or do without means nothing to people like you... Jeez.... Some people really do just take the wee wee here

Lmao your hilarious comparing copying software to stealing a material item. :D

Not my fault that ms lied by saying there was a half price upgrade. Besides which they said, they would prefer people to pirate their os then use linux or mac.

I may be hilarious, you however are dishonest and I know which I'd rather be...

a lot of people pirate windows and microsoft admitted that they prefer that to people using an alternative

not a bad plan really. Vista doesnt sell as well as people like so:

1 - make it expensive - someone will buy it
2 - make it more attractive by making it possible to do a clean intsall with an upgrade only version - *without* a previous copy of windows
3 - when that doesn't work - make it possible to use a dodgy copy with virtually no hassle for months, even a year or 2. This makes the move to Vista move on quicker - more games etc are made with it in mind then
4 - Update the activation/wga whatever in line with sp1 for vista. this knocks out the 'reset' function. make some important updates available only for the sp1 version of vista. most pirates give up and buy the cheaper version. the more hardcore pirate anyway but are a small minority

end result, more people are familiar with vista - more businesses move over to it from nt/2k/xp

it's the old lotus notes/MS office thing again. the one that won out was the easiest to copy!
