At the Virgin Megastore in London's Oxford Street, the software giant handed out chairs to those queuing that had a website address printed on them.

Anyone visiting the webpage saw an Xbox 360 branded site that "welcomes" Sony to the next generation and chides the electronics giant for being "late". Microsoft's Xbox 360 launched in late 2005.

Game news site Next Gen reported that French gamers were outnumbered by the media on the boat Sony moored by the Eiffel tower to act as a temporary electronics store selling the console.

The event was upstaged by Microsoft which drove its own boat covered in Xbox 360 logos up and down the Seine near the Sony craft.

A poor release AND Microsoft is going around trying to upstage them. I had assumed there would be some kind of unspoken respect between companies, but Microsoft went to considerable lengths to get itself seen...
I personally find it faily petty, it hasn't seemed to have changed anything, received little publicity and the launch was poor in any case, but this is the first time I've heard of a rival actively trying to undermine a launch.

Unfortunately Sony deserve all they get, I used to like Sony, I love their products, but they make MS (Who are bad) look like angels..
Just google for "Sony lies"....

I would love for Sony to come out with a website of their own and maybe advertise it in a 360 game. It could just read "we may be late but at least we finished ours".

That wouldn't be good enough for Sony, theres no lies in it... perhaps they could add the tag line.. "We may be late, but it's so powerful, it can snap knicker elastic at 100yds".. ;)

The difference being, the Sony lies for the first god knows how many pages are all about the lies over PS3..

I thought it was a bit unprofessional to be honest.

Sony could've easily done the same with the X360 launch, or both of them could've done it with the Wii launch. It just seems a bit immature - though I suppose some people might find it funny.

Lol, I found it quite light hearted and funny and it's not like they're not all at it. I'll remind you that Sony's Ken a few months before the 360 launch said ..

"the Xbox 360 is more of an Xbox 1.5 than a next generation console.”

I think MS's attitude with PR stunts like this is very immature, but damn funny! I think these childish stunts are great :D It wouldn't be that surprising if they pulled moonies out of the side of the boat.

I remember years ago when i was a lad, when commodore released the CD32 (amiga CD console) they put a billboard poster right near the sega office in the UK with the slogan "To be this good will take SEGA AGES" i had to smile. We all know what happened to both those companies though.

Im sure Sony ripped the crap out of the Dreamcast, with smart adverts etc, I hope they like it back at them :D

Childish stunts are awesome, Microsoft have gained +1 respect in my book.

I was referring to console-producers, but i should have been more specific I suppose.
The thing is, these things were relatively small... And even though Sony has years to wait until the next Microsoft release, will they do something similar?
