Microsoft Disks

Just checking, this won't work with Retail Home Premium to install OEM Basic?

Edit: My Home Premium retail SP1 32-bit disk worked fine re-installing Basic version on a HP Compaq laptop.

no. ei.cfg determines what the disk installs.

nope, you're talking out of your behind. you're thinking of windows 7. vista disks are completely different. they will let you install any version so long as you have the correct product key. :)

having installed vista just as many times as I've installed 7, if not more, I can definitely say that it's asked for the key after the install every time.

it asks for it during install, but you can choose 'install without key' and choose your version instead.

you can install without a key in XP SP3 too
