Yeah its a rumor the other one being that its having certification issues?

Also if Epic want it free theres still cost involved in distributing it. Saying that Microsoft make tons of money from Live! anyway so hand it over all ready.

With M$, not a chance to have it free. They've been selling the 360 for so cheap already, so they need to suck more money back now.

there was an interview on the 1up yours podcast this week with mark rein and tim sweeny from epic talking about this very thing ms don't want the maps released for free as it will make ms and othe publishers look bad due to the price of some the map packs on live already and because live is a closed system it's microsofts way or no way, although epic have stood their ground this time but their mood towards ms in the interview was quite tense and they seemed peeved about it and ms charging for live on windows also gd interview

tbh, MS should do everything possible to keep Mark Rein and Tim Sweeny happy. The last thing they want is to pee Epic games off.

Epic have won a lot of plaudits from PC gamers for releasing so much free stuff for their games like Unreal Tournament 2003/4 - huge map packs, new game types etc. all free for download. So I can see why they'd be disappointed that they aren't allowed to do it on the 360 as well.

It's stupid isnt it. Epic want fans to have these things for free, But Ms are denying it.

Like whats already been said, MS need to keep Epic sweet. If Epic want to provide their customers with free content, they should be allowed to do so.

Absolutely!
GoW was stupidly popular. Would be a bit of a blow to MS if Epic told them where to shove it. This could possibly result in no GoW2, which I'd imagine would sell just as well as GoW.

Or even worse for M$, GoW2 exclusive to PS3!

Apparently this happened with extra levels for Marble Blast as well the developers wanted to release the extra content for free and M$ wouldn't allow it so they have never released it :(

I hope Epic make a big fuss over this and hopefully it'll shame M$ into giving the content out for free to avoid the bad PR.

On a similar note..

I put Kameo back in the other day, for the first time in over a year. There was an update to install, which I duly installed. This seemed to enable something called 'expert mode', which I thought I'd have a go at. Wanted 400 points! Can't believe they wanted 400 points for a mode which sounds like it just makes the game a bit harder.

I really don't like the way MS are going with this.

I think M$ considers any updates not related to the OS means you are getting more than what you paid for the game, therefore you have to pay. Just like buying Windows, windows update is free but Starcraft expansion pack is not, so you pay.

MS have the rights for GOW and GOW2, if the latter gets made ( which it will ), but after that epic are free to produce it on any console they want unless ms stump more cash or something

Totally agree would be absolutely ludicrous to mess with them i reckon all stuff will be free coming Epic can just play the bargain game and win. :)

That Microsoft wanting to charge money for content eh... Anyone would think they were a business or something and had to make up for losing money on the hardware...

Not like someone like EA charging for map packs for BF2 & 2142... Er... OK, Well Sony charging for expansions for Wow.. Bugger.. Sony & Everquest? Tsch... Well there's always Blizzard and warcraft /starcraft... Hey ho :D

A few new maps cant be compared to an expansion pack like wow or starcraft.

And i dont think some of the map packs for bf2 are worth the money.

Im confused now, i thought you paid a monthly sub for live and then you got maps + extras from M$ for free?

But it seems you have to pay a sub and then spend more money buying items ??

Theres a big difference between expansions and new multiplayer maps, And considering its Epics effort and they are the ones wanting it to be offered free, M$ should step back.

You say they are a business, I'd say it's bad business to P*ss off a developer under your wing.
