Now, you buy Blizzard StarCraft = you buy GOW.
You pay for StarCraft expansion pack = You'll pay for GOW expansion pack.

You probably would buy a GOW expansion pack. Problem is, We arent talking expansion pack.

Or even worse for M$, GoW2 exclusive to PS3!
despite this, whats to stop sony from doing exactly like MS when Epic want to release free content? Sony need the money more than MS do to.

If Sony see MS and Epic aren't getting on due to MS being too controlling. I can't see Sony making the same mistake

Sony want to make their money on many microtransactions for content in games.

Dont M$ get money for ever game sold on their console ?, if so this is just m$ getting greedy, after selling 3 million of gow they think they can make a lot more money off it

The point is, isn't it obvious M$ is telling you they don't care? be it expansion pack or additional map, they tell you to pay since you are using their live service.

with the ps2 still outselling both the 360 and ps3 and with the profit margin on the ps2 being very high and the amount of ps2 software still selling big amounts ms are the ones that need the money, ps2 hardware and software sales more than cover the losses on the ps3 hardware and then some

The gaming division maybe, but not Microsoft as a whole.

You do realise that Sony lost $1.6billion in the last 3 months of last year? The games division alone lost $455million. I'm fairly sure that Microsoft will have been operating at a fairly considerable profit for the same three months.

yeah the whole of ms is profitable but anyone that thinks the shareholders of ms will allow the gaming division to continually run at a loss to be bailed by the other divisions is living in lala land, they have deep pockets but any business that runs at loss will have to provide answers to shareholders as to why one section of the company hasn't made a profit since it's inception ( barring the halo2 quarter obviously )

I thought one of the major selling points of XBox live back when it was first coined was the downloadable content - why are people forced to pay for things like maps?

Yeah, you can see Sony charging us for downloadable content for games as they dont charge a subscription fee, but I certainly don't agree with MS charging us for both!

Mircosoft Gaming division has been running at a loss since the original xbox, shareholders have been fine with it so far. Its a gamble they are hoping will pay of and it probably will. It will eventually turn a profit and when it does what a profit it will be.
