MICROSOFT OFFICE 2010 AVAILABLE TO PRE-ORDER

But it's clear to see that there's practically nothing that MSOffice offers that OpenOffice doesn't.

OpenOffice is more comparable to Office 2003 in terms of functionality. MS Office has come a long way since then, so there's really quite a bit it can do that OpenOffice cannot.

I've seen a lot of people make the switch from 2003 to 2007. They were perfectly happy with the former, and the most common remark i heard said about the new one was 'well isn't that shiny', closely followed by 'i can't open this file, what should i do?'

There's nothing MS Office can do that OO can't that actually matters to anyone. I use AbiWord, because i want a word processor, not a fully featured image editor which is what MSWord is fast turning into.

Oh, have Microsoft sorted out the issues with inaccuracies of calculations in Excel yet?

I used the citations manager in Word 2007 a lot during uni, as did other people. That mattered to me, and made paying for Office 2007 worthwhile just for that.

The interface was a big selling point for a lot of people too, it looks far nicer and although it takes a bit of getting used to, features are far more easy to find now than they were in 2003. Same applies to OpenOffice, seeing as it too is stuck in the dark ages with a mass of menus and toolbars.

You can have a citations manager in OO. MS Office is stupidly over the top, if i open up a word processor then i expect a word processor, not a shiny wavy thing that takes forever to do anything and can't format documents to a reasonable size or a universal file type.

You can buy the Student version legally for £40.00 and there is no need to prove your a student, they don't even ask and there is no paperwork to fill in.

Well thats not really legally though is it? :p

+ Will be there be any difference apart from the visual ones? Because I still would rather use office 2003 than 2007 :)
