Microsoft pulls fast one at E3 using NVidia graphics cards.

I went PS3 last time as it was the best price/performance Bluray player on the market, and could also be used as a media streamer and games console. Don't see a need to upgrade as it still does the job fine (don't watch Blurays any more), but if it breaks ill prob go PS4.

even if the Xbox was a bit of a better option overall (like PS3/360) I'd still get the playstation :D.

Luckily no such claims can be made this time round. PS4 has better hardware, better exclusives (IMO), and with PS+, a better online package. And none of the DRM, game ownership, always online nonsense.

+1.

2x7950 and it is cheaper and faster. Btw dont you have a sig to change now :P *just kidding*

+1. :p

I'm an ex console developer N64, PS2 and PS3

This kind of 'cheating' goes on all the time but Microsoft are so arrogant they don't attempt to hide it. At least run it on hardware related as closely as possible to your target platform.

Running on Intel and Nvidia chips? WTF and win7? The internet would be more forgiving if it were AMD and Win 8.

rant over

I can't see the aluminium heatsink so I think it's more likely the GTX 680 rather than the GTX 780 / Titan. Even the GTX 680 is roughly 2x faster than the speculated XB1 GPU.

Take in to account it has to render windows as well. The games are not yet complete so they require a little extra grunt to run. It does not matter that its an Intel CPU as it still 64bit. They probably just get these parts cheaper. Again as for GPU, it does not matter that it is a different brand as it basically works the same, as the games will be coded in a way to be able to port to PC easily. Maybe for once we will see PS4 + XB1 games having lines in the code relating to PC/Windows. So many times I have gone to mod a game to find lines referencing PS3 or 360...

True, they also most likely use similar PC hardware for the development kits so its understandable.

I wonder how the 8GB of GDDR5 in the PS4 is going to change things. If this is the only memory used by the GPU wont the DDR3 in the XB1 slow things down a bit? I haven’t seen if the XB1 GPU has its own dedicated memory.

At least the platforms will be a little more standardised this time around.

Depends on the frequency and timings used and also how good the memory controller is.
Though yes, in theory the DDR5 in the PS4 will be faster than the DDR3 in the XB1.

Well they're using APU's, so the bandwidth is important, the PS4's pulling no punches against the Xbox one, there's a decent difference between them, as opposed the current/last generation.

The xb1 does have 32MB embedded, not a lot, for high bandwith

my [admittedly rather uninformed and sony biased] view is it seems we have a role reversal, 360vs ps3 the ps3 was trying to be more multimedia whereas the 360 was slightly better focused for games, now its reversed.

tbh, I've been a sony fanboy for a long time but tbh, I don't think i'll get either until such times as it gets a lot cheaper.

*goes off to dream of all the nice things he could do to his pc for the price of an xbox one*

Well, false advertising is nothing new for consoles.

Sega's demise with its failure on Dreamcast was partly to do with Sony's control/use of media at the time, and their big fat lie of PS2 having something like 20 times the processing power of the eventual product, right after Dreamcast launched. Spec wise Dreamcast was superior to PS 1, but lots of people held off buying Dreamcast with Sony constantly leaking false info through various media, keep banging PS2 being far faster than it really is.

Am I the only one thinking about the irony of Microsoft basically openly admitting Windows 7 is superior to Windows 8? :D

Seriously, for desktop user, Windows 8 is like the Bulldozer of Microsoft :P
