I have been stuck with a crappy HP generic keyboard ever since my MS Ergo.....4000 died (spilled juice on it) and i have finally ordered me a new one which is a Microsoft Reclusa and i have a few questions about it from anyone who may have used it.

1. Can i switch off the back-light for say when i'm using the keyboard during the day?

2. How is it for general typing?

3. what kind of feel do the keys have as in overall texture and when being pressed.

4. Is there anything with the keyboard which i may need to know about i.e. bugs...etc?

Cheers.

1. No, but I do not find it bugs me. There is a fix online but it requires somesoldering skills. ;)

2. No problems for me, though took a bit of getting used to from my previous. but that is the same with every keyboard and mouse change.

3. They are slightly textured. I like them.

4. Only bug I have found is, that when I power down my PC, the numlock light comes on and if you don't turn it off, it will stay on, even when it is off.

I stopped using the driver as well as I don't use macros or feel the need to map any keys. Win7 will install a driver automatically which works fine.

Cheers for the reply.

I find the numlock staying on with my generic HP PS/2 keyboard as well so unless the light for it on the reclusa is that bright then it shouldn't bother me as i have a pull out keyboard tray which would hide the light anyway.

If it's anything like my MS laser mouse then i'll be fine without any software as i found some of the functions that were pre-mapped to the buttons when the intelli point software was installed to be annoying if they were accidentally activated so i stopped using the software as it really made no difference to the basic use of my mouse.

*Edit*

Never saw the X4 but i'm too late to cancel my order on the reculsa so may see if i like the reculsa and if not send it back and goto amazon to get an X4. Only £3 more with free delivery for the x4 on amazon than what i paid elsewhere for my reculsa but i'll only get an X4 if i really don't like the reculsa

Still got mine as a spare. It has taken some serious abuse over the last 5 years and still works like new, thought the wheel is a tad looser than it was new.

Epic mouse. :)

I take it you have a 6000 laser mouse?? Mines was manufactured Nov 2005 and still works like new, i guess my wheel is also a bit looser but not that much. The only fault or negative i found is that it seems a bit light although it's never affected me too much.

I think i paid somewhere between £15-£25 for mine and it has outlived 3 PC configurations and several keyboards in 5 years and unless it dies i won't be replacing it anytime soon.

Yep, thats the one. Mine was made in 2005 as well. :)

I recently spent months trying to find a modern replacement as I like the shape so much. Ended up getting a Steelseries XAI. Nearly the same shape and has a good bit more weight to it. Cost me a small fortune though!

Thought I better take a piccy so you can see the resemblance. You can tell they copied it. :D

Well i love the shape as well because its fits my hand perfectly without any stretching of fingers or anything.

Anyway back on topic, i am just looking at an unboxing/review of the X4 and i like the look of it and it seems nice to use but i'll really have to dislike the reculsa if i am going to switch to an x4.

Got my keyboard today and overall i am pleased with it. As for typing goes it feels good and does a good job which is nice. The only game i've tested the keyboard out on so far is Unreal Tournament III and i can safely say it is so much better to use than my old generic keyboard.

The only fault/annoyance i've found so far is with the six keys L1-L3 and R1-R3 (mostly L1-L3). The problem i have is with the fact they are keys instead of buttons and i have found myself opening outlook when i wanted caps lock but i guess that's probably to do with the fact i've alwways had keyboards where Caps, Tab and Shift have been the furthest keys to the left, still would have liked them to be short buttons like L4-L5.

Now just need work out how to configure some of the keyboard to my own taste (like control any media player's own volume and not the system volume) and i'll be quite happy with things.
