I`m not sure whether this has been posted yet but the final release of Microsoft Security Essentials 2 is now available for download.

Code:

I've ditched AVAST in favour of MSE now, I will put up with the high CPU usage of large folders although the recent builds have allowed you to open exes in said folders without delay so this is good, appears to still use the CPU but only in the background so doesn't disrupt your working.

Can't be risking a potential issue with 3rd party AV updates marking Windows files as infected and stopping Windows from loading (like AVG few weeks ago) - seems to be a few cropping up every few months. Would rather stay 1st party and be safe with the knowledge that false positives like that won't happen.

I haven't used MSE in ages so I just decided to try the new version to see if the above problem was any better.

It's worse.

While it does allow you to click on .exe files in a folder now (while hammering the CPU scanning everything) it also scans the .exe file when the links to the programs are shown in Start Menu.

No other AV program is this aggressive to non-executing executables.

I can't be the only one that notices MSE is an aggressive CPU-hogging steaming pile of poo surely?

I don't get the start menu scanning on mine, no CPU difference and I have a lot of programs installed although my start menu is completely organised in folders by application category.

Have they bothered to fix MSE's annoying auto-update behaviour that steals focus and minimizes full screen apps/games? Only been on their "cba to fix this" list for most of 2010

Dunno, I never have had it steal focus and I do game a lot killing zombies.

The only bug I have ever had with MSE is the large folder CPU usage bug which has existed ever since MSE has existed, it's the only thing I always mention when it comes to every MSE build.

Same for me as well. But that doesn't really bother me much.

Thanks for the link!
