The biggest news is that Microsoft’s games will now be published on Steam as well, starting with Gears 5 later this year, which means gamers won’t be forced to go with the less-than-ideal Microsoft Store. Another controversial facet of the store is that it had been so far limited to the oft-criticized Universal Windows Platform, and Spencer also revealed games on the Microsoft Store will now support the Win32 format as well.

No more having to use the MS Store. :p

This is good news IMO. I didn't mind the MS store right up until the ******* nightmare I had with state of decay 2. Put me off ever getting anything even slightly large on there. Even the customer support rep just folded the moment I mentioned the store as the reason I wanted to refund SoD2.

Huh, why are they giving up on their ecosystem?

I thought all the movements they’ve made since win 10 came out was an attempt to kill off all third party store apps?

I guess azure must be hot ****.

Yes SOD2 was one of the biggest disappointments of last year for me. This is nothing but good news.

MS are finally in their own way admitting that the ONLY way they can chase all the money being lost to other publishers & services on PC is embrace the mainstream demand!

I think there is a distinction between Xbox Game Studios games and Xbox Game Pass for PC. From what I understand, if you want to access the 100+ games as part of the Game Pass, then you need to use Windows Store to play them.

If you want to buy Xbox Game Studios games then you can buy them on Windows Store or Steam, starting with Gears 5.

At first read, I thought the Game Pass would be a Steam thing (as that's where all the games already are) but unlikely.
