Microsoft Virtual PC thingy

It wont harm anything, the 'machine' only exists in memory :)

Get VMWare Server though, it rocks all over Virtual Server. Microsoft are very much on the back foot with virtualisation.

Until Longhorn Server comes out anyway.

Just downloaded and installed. Looks very good.

Ive used MS Virtual Machine in the past at work. Is this VM Server Free for life? or a time limited product?
Ive looked on the website and it says its free but is that just the player?

I think it's free for life

Make sure you install the VMWare tools thing into your virtual operating system! At first when I was using VMWare I was thinking to myself that there's not much of a difference between MS virtual and VMWare, but when I installed the VMWare tools thing onto the virtual OS it made a MASSIVE difference, and now I can see that Microsoft are a bit behind on virtual stuff.

Craig.

Microsoft have an equivalent virtual tools install for their Virtual PC software, but quite frankly VMWare pulverises it. Besides, Virtual PC doesn't support USB at all.

One word of caution - if you plug that external disk in while VMWare is active, the virtual PC will grab it. That may or may not be what you want.
