Is anyone having trouble accessing the Microsoft Site?

I have not been able to get onto it for a few days now???

Windows update also doesnt work, i have tried accessing it through Vista and Xp Pro

I have tried everything, its not blocked at my router or any software, it wont even allow me to ping in the command prompt???

You're not running Peerguardian2 or something are you with the block list running?

Sure you don't have web filtering enabled on your router/firewall as well? :)

Microsoft drop all ICMP requests on all of their sites, so that wouldn't work even if you could access the site.

im not running any software guys that would block me from the site, in fact i have just done a clean install of xp pro and vista business and neither of those can access it???

Could it be anything to do with the hosts file also? Had a similar issue a few weeks ago with someone else's PC not accessing their college website.

The hosts file is used for local DNS resolution, used to resolve domain names to IP in the 'great circle of name resolution' before sending a lookup request to a DNS server. Unless the machine has been compromised (virus, malware), I wouldn't have thought the hosts file would be to blame.

Just for clarity, try entering 212.158.248.5 as your DNS server.

EDIT - Just for the lols I Googled that IP, it's the only DNS server I know of the top of my head. Seems to be a Bulldog broadband DNS, used them a couple of years ago. :p Just incase you wondered what it was.

Can't help you there, mate. Haven't used it since beta. :p

But, do you not have a network icon in the system tray that you can double click or something? Bring up network properties?
