If I recall correctly Microsoft offer a form of licence to companies which allows their employees the right to install Microsoft Software (e.g MS Office) at home.

Is this correct? If so what is the term for this kind of licence?

That looks like the kind of thing I am after.

Is there anything else? I remember a few years ago, I was working at a company where IT would give you MS office on DVD, and we were told that they were entitled to under the terms of their licence with Microsoft.

I think that is it. It comes under some part of Volume Licensing, judging by the link. There are others on here with more experience in that regard so you may want to hear from them. :)

The Home USe Program is a free feature of the licensing - however people still need to pay a nominal fee for their software.

For Office, we have as many "Home Use" licenses as we have fully paid up licenses in the company.
Each person who wants to take part needs to go to the Home Use website and enter their work email address and the code we give them.
It then allows them to buy:

Office 2010
Visio 2010
Project 2010
Mac Office 2010

For around £8 each.
The license is valid for as long as that person works for the company - once they leave your employment their license is no longer valid.
However the agreement is between the employee and Microsoft - so as a company you do not have to chase the license once somebody leaves.
