Mid Gaming Machine

Hi everyone, me again!

A friend of mine has decided that he wants to update his machine as i've now updated mine

His budget is similar to mine (£1000) and that has to include montior (preferably the ASUS HD 22") and Vista x64.

He will be playing at 1920x1080 and playing games like Crysis, FarCry 2 and most of the new stuff so it needs to be future-proof and upgradable.

IF possible, can it be a DDR3 machine.

Hows this look for you? you even get a bit of change
If you want to spend that change then areas you could go for are
a) better gfx card (4890)
b) 955BE quad core CPU
c) Nicer case
d) Modular PSU
None are really necessary thought, this setup will perform admirably

That looks like a good setup, though I would add another smaller and faster hard drive for your OS and programs etc and use the 1tb for storage.

Windows 7 is free for now, so get taht and then you have time to save up for vista!

Pretty close! You could easily get a cheaper case/hard drive/graphics card etc. As I said, you could use windows 7 for a year then buy vista or whatever. EDIT: also forgot heatsink! Doh!

Thing is he's after a mid end gaming machine, is an i7 going to make much if any difference? No, also youre sacrificing other things like PSU, meaning if he wanted to add a 2nd card later in xfire he'd have to buy a new PSU. IMO the spec I did is much more rounded and suited to his needs rather than stretching for an i7 that is of little worth/value for what he wants

There hardly sacrificed, I'm sure a 600w decent PSU could power another graphics card. At the end of the day its up to him how he spends it, were just offering different opinions and specs.

my bro managed to fit in 9800gx2 in his antec 300, which is about the same size as the 4870x2, so you should be fine.
