have you got any benchmarks to support your claim that the £25 graphics card is better than the i2500k onboard for playback? if you do then I'll gladly change it from z68 to a p67 + discrete card.

i dont know about a £25 card, but i know the ATI 5450 is actually slightly worse than intel onboard (well, thats what the mods said anyway)

cheers guys lots to look over, no need for micro motherboards, but i guess they fit

oh, i chose a mATX motherboard because when you asked about the motherboard being mATX i thought that was all that would fit in your case

respec incoming

*edit*
also, you get free shipping. makes things a lot easier

have you got any benchmarks to support your claim that the £25 graphics card is better than the i2500k onboard for playback?

Read again, I didn't make any such claim. My understanding is that initially the HD support onboard was poor. I haven't the foggiest what the current HD support is like, I was hoping you knew :)

However I do know that any gfx card geforce 8 and beyond is able to support hidef video and is suitable for video play back with HDMI and quality surround sound.

A discrete card may offer more features for folk who want to tinker and process video and match refresh rates, the one I picked is passive for a quiet home theater PC.

Lol yep I picked up on that, what you suggested was a quality spec. Fingers crossed it gets built and it works first time :)

It's best to start a new thread on the day you purchase so the guys can take advantage of the offers. Things may need tweaking slightly ;)

You have an excellent idea now of what's possible in your budget. Personally I would opt for the IGP too. It's worth checking the mobos video outputs, some just have hdmi others will have multiple outputs. Don't want you getting caught out and not being able to connect your monitor.

It might sound petty by £20 for a gfx card doesnt add up to me. That's 4GB of RAM or close to a half decent heatsink. The z series mobo is the way forward, if you ever fancy gaming you can buy a GPU later without breaking the bank.

As an example, there is a 1GB 460 in the bargain bin for £80. That would give you pretty decent gaming performance, cuda and then the lucid virtu of the Z series mobo kicks in. Something like that is worth having in the PCI-Express slot.

Good luck with the build, any probs or questions come back to us.

alternatively you can just buy for what you need it for now and save a few bob.

use the integrated GPU, 8gig of ram because you asked for it even though for just movie playback 4gig would be fine and the CPU includes a heat sink and fan.

thanks mate, its for my dad for xmas, and have around £330 in a pot from me and my brother and sister, so wanted to get the best for that, he wont be playing ANY games, but does a lot of movie stuff, not hardcore equipment, but watching films, and using video from his cameras to make to make films, so a dedicated gcard would be good i think.
