So my old (5 years) has just died. It was a self build and has served me well. I cant remember what was in it but basically Athlon 3000, 500mb memory. Pretty slow by todays standards. Ive done a little research and decided ill still get a lot more for my money with another self build. Probably with overclockers. For general use, browsing and a little gamming but nothing serious.

My budget is £500-600. I already have monitor, speakers, keyboard and mouse so basically a new tower.
Ive used overclockers pc configurator and here is my first draught.

AMD Phenom II X6 Six Core 1055T 2.80 Ghz (Socket AM3)
Dark Knight CPU Cooler
Asus M4N68T-M LE NForce 630a (Socket AM3) DDR3 Motherboard
Kingston HyperX Genesis Grey 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (KHX1600C9D3X2K2/8GX)
GeForce GT 430 1024MB GDDR3 Low Profile PCI-Express Graphics Card
Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 1TB SATA 6Gb/s 32MB Cache - OEM (ST31000524AS)
22x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter (Black) - OEM
ZS Series 750W '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply

Comes to £557.12 with VAT and delivery

Anything needs changing? Will this last another 5 years?

Sorry for my ignorance as it has been awhile, Sandybridge is the motherboard isnt it?

This can be achieved for the same money, just build it yourself.

Is the 550W powerful enough? 5 years ago when i last built the bigger the better or have they just moved on?

Thanks for the re-spec, all advice is welcome and im impressed with the benchmark link. Who would have guessed that a 6core 3.2Ghz Amd would be slower than Quad core 2.4Ghz Intel. The numbers just look wrong lol

Thats the movement of technology, the cores of the more modern/power efficient (thats the other thing, the power consumption is massively reduced) Sandybridge are much better than the AMD old tech.

So assuming i place the order above do i need any extra cables, OEM comes without anything from memory?

The motherboard has SATA data cables.

The stock intel heatsink has thermal paste applied.

The PSU has the cables needed for everything.

The only small thing is the GTX460 above is just a bare card (no box, no accessories, 1 year warranty) so hopefully you use a DVI cable to the monitor? as it doesnt come with a DVI to VGA adapter.

£500-600 was the build budget for the pc, abit closer to xmas i intend getting a better monitor, until then its quite an old 1. Having said that it does have a DVI input, so i need a DVI lead? Im guessing this is better than VGA?

Would i need any extra case fans btw?

Thanks for all your help Stulid.

Yes DVI is nicer than VGA, and if a DVi cable didnt come with your monitor then add one to the order,

If you decide to add a fan also, then dont spend much - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=FG-010-CM&groupid=701&catid=57&subcat=4 - otherwise you may as well get a better case to start with if you catch my drift.
