Midweek Football; 27-28th January - *SPOiLERS*

Oh, and the most annoying thing of all is all the commentary and all the post match reports saying Berbatov looked suspiciously offside for the 5th goal when he was quite clearly onside by at least a yard!

It's clear to see anyway, but for further clarification, look at the pitch markings.

Wow. I can't remember the last time we won 6 away on the spin. This is brilliant stuff from Villa, and anyone who STILL doubts that we could get into the top 4 needs a reality check, because we're going nowhere.

Greenlizard - just think, you'll be able to win the vacant UEFA Cup next year! Us in 2009, Arsenal in 2010, along with plenty of wonderful away ties in Malta, Moldova, Faroe Islands.. ;)

Yeah Berb and Ronnie were both clearly on, very well read by the linesman, I was suspicious initially.

BBC match report says Robinson got the ball

The Robinson tackle wasn't anywhere near a red card, it was an honest tackle and I have no idea why people are saying it was two footed, it was two footed in so far as, he has two feet, and one didn't magically leave his body, but one of this legs was out for a tackle, and the other was bent to the side, only the outstretched leg caught him, and it didn't catch him that much, it was unlucky contact. Like wise, "jumping" in, technically at some point in 99.9% of challenges at some stage as a player goes to ground his feet will likely be off the ground for at least a split second as a player drops to the floor with outstretched legs. The point is if they jump in two footed or way off the ground at the point of contact, neither of which was the case in this one.

The red card that should have been at Pompie was a incredibly decision, its the worst tackle this year bar none. He got embarassed that his crap skill lost the ball, he didn't want them to break he could have put an arm out, a light bump stopping him but not hurting him. But with no chance and no intention of getting the ball in any way or form he swung his leg, this is important, as hard as he could possibly muster to damage the player. He intended to hurt the player, had the guys foot been planted we would have likely seen a heavily twisted and quite possibly a broken ankle. he should thanks his lucky stars his foot was just leaving the ground at contact as that could have been season ending injury a la Diaby.

Frankly it was an incredibly clear red card, and for such a vicious attack that should be a red followed by a 5 game ban, if not longer. Seriously, had his foot been planted you're looking at a season out with a broken ankle purely because he wanted to hurt the player.

The issues regarding the Robinson tackles are that Park had already won the ball before Robinson went to ground and Robinson was running at a very high speed for a tackle. Whilst his studs certainly weren't up (which wasn't clear to the ref in fairness), the one leg that was cocked is the one that went into Parks chest knee first, he could quite easily have broken Parks ribs.

What is interesting though is that Robinsons tackle is technically worse than, for example, the tackle on Eduardo that broke Eduardo's leg, but because the outcome wasn't the same nothing is being made of Robinsons and as a result is seen different.

Exactly, if Park had ended up injured people would be saying different. He stayed down for a long time, something that had me quite concerned because Park is not the sort of player to stay on the ground like that.

hmm actually i'm trying to remember if he's played in every premiership game since we last conceded.

He has yes :D

I think Nok is right, because Park wasnt injured the card is seen as harsh, even though the tackle was just as bad as Eduardo's where his leg was broken

Its great to continue the clean sheet record, and to remove a Chelsea one :), but the three points on Sat are vital at home especially against a team who have a nasty habit of playing well against us (or we play badly against them lol) and are managing to score goals without any strikers

Back in the real world :p

Brighton got a well deserved draw at League One leaders Leicester last night. :)

I have to say the Walkers stadium is very nice, easily the best in our division.

ps Thanks to Leicester for letting us borrow their away kit to play in :D

Great win again for the Villa last night - we weren't as free flowing as some might want, but nicked a scrappy win, which is a good sign.

Emile - class!

Catch us if you can Arsenal!

That first half is the best I've seen Spurs play all season. Modric was just incredible - great awareness, incisive passing and he never stopped wanting the ball. Dawson looked back to his best (shame about the pass in the second half), Lennon had an end product, Defoe ran his socks off and Pav looked like a very classy striker.

I think the high tempo killed our game for the second half though. Too tired and we seemed happy to keep the score as it was.

Who was that twerp refereeing though? Phil Dowd? Absolutely terrible. Blew his whistle every two seconds and gave some very unnecessary yellow cards. At one point he waited to see if Spurs had advantage, we did and then he blew!

It was the kicking our lads were taking that made the 2nd half poor.
