Midweek Football Thread. *spoilers* 25-27

Hoping that Peterborough will get their first win of the season against Ipswich in the CC tonight, not quite the start we were hoping for in the league with only 1 point from 4 games , but its still very premature and a long way to go.

I say 2-1 to Posh, we'll send Keane home on his tractor :D

They also have 1 point from 4 games and will be looking to destroy you ;)

Out of interest, as a non-better, why do people flock to accumulators so readily?

As far as I'm aware, they don't actually give much higher odds than betting on each result individually do they? Why would you want to sacrifice your entire bet on one result going awry, rather than spreading the bets to absorb any losses you may make?

It's so you can make small bets. Say for example you bet £3 on 10 results coming true, you could win something like £150, but to do these bets separately you'd have to do 30p bets on each game which bookies (online at least) won't let you do.

Yeh, it's obvious that the more predictions you are going to make the less chance you are going to win, so the potential winnings can go through the roof.

Betting on each game seperately doesnt increase any odds, ok you might win more money but the potential money you could win totally will be a lot less because you are only relying on individual games

This is an example as to why ;) I won £205 roughly at the weekend while spending a measley £5! :D

The thing is the more teams you bet the higher the odds, if I bet each of these teams with 20p each for example I would get nowhere near the returns.

Due to the accumulator meaning you need a series of results to win the bet there is indeed a multiplier attatched.

I put a ridiculous one on tonight for example which has 13teams on it and £1 would win me in the region of £200. It's one that when it comes off works well. Of course you can protect yourself by having smaller bets in the form of putting your 9 teams for example into 8folds, protecting some of your cash and making a small profit possibly.

But all you've really done is won a 200/1* bet though, haven't you? It's strikes me as just a long-odds punt cunningly disguised as a collection of separate "dead-certs".

EDIT: My mistake, 40/1, since you spent a fiver.

Yep we are very even-stevens with 3rd and 2nd bottom of the league and both really struggling, but with the home advantage we should win out. Its not like we have been out played in our games, we have just made key costly mistakes at the back and not taken chances and been clinical enough up front, both of which have meant we have shot ourselves in the foot most games.

The time will come though when our defence stops the 'free goal with every attack' offer they currently have running and the Mac-Attack finally hit that barn door with a banjo, and that time will be tonight... or bank holiday monday against Palace :D

How else would you like it to be disguised?

The only way to win decent money on these so called "dead-certs" is to bet them all and as we see in Football, nothing is that simple. If such bets were a "dead-certs" then they would work everytime.

It's essentially the only way in which you can make money on the favourites is to bet a group of them.

Also my bets in order had the following odds...

17/1
11/1
80/1

it's unfair to call it 40/1 as the odds were much longer for me to win the bet with 10 teams.

I'll have my eye on the champions league game between Athletico and Panathanikos!

If Athletico and Fiorentina both go through Rangers will move up to Pot 2 for the Group Stages :D

Accumulators are a bookies dream, their spread is multiplied with each additional result you add to your accumulator.

Always the same with accumulators..

So far its West Ham letting me down, I think the last 4 I've put on I've lost by one result...

Hope they get it sorted for the 2nd half :p

Fabregas is out of the match tomorrow, bit of a problem there in central midfield so just as well we're taking a 2-0 lead into the game. I suspect Song may get a recall, it makes it harder to revert to a 4-5-1 though which Wenger seems to favour in Europe.

Will be interesting to see if Diaby retains his place after bagging a brace at the weekend.

Yeh I'm only concentrating on 1 of my 4 accumulators tonight..

The other 3 are crazy 50p ones which were obviously a ridiculous punt.

My main one is just West Ham that is not doing it for me
