Lysander said:Sounds like incompatible hardware or drivers to me. I have a USB keyboard - very nice looking thing too - however sometimes it stops working in Vista since somehow it is incompatible. So many things are not compatible with Vista yet. It's best only to use or install the things you know are compatible rather than assume everything will be.
Ice On Fire said:You guys have convinced me, will stay with it, and try it again. Can anyone explain the major slow down in games? using a ATi X800Xt card and vista ati drivers i downloaded off their site yesterday..
Lysander said:As far as ATI goes, your gaming performance will all be to do with what kind of games you're playing.
For me, Need For Speed Most Wanted runs near perfect [though a bit stuttery in places, probably due to its dislike of dual cores], however, Prey, Doom3 and Quake4 look like poo. Reason being that the ATI RTM beta drivers do not support Open GL yet and even Quake1 with a GL engine is unplayable. Playing games that use Direct 3D are fine. I hope that the full drivers for ATI come out soon though, hopefully in the next 24 hours.

WHY?
I remember when Gibbo first posted that he may be able to get Vista into the hands of the end user early. There was so much jumping around and cheering that people failed to note what he actually said - EARLY.
I've been on the phone to a competitor this week, to see when they're planning on launching Vista onto shelves, I was told Feb 5th! That's not even the launch date we were told by Microsoft.
The way I see it, is that both nVidia and ATi had to rewrite their drivers for Vista, in both 32 and 64 bit guises. It takes time. As well as that, they've been working towards the RETAIL LAUNCH date, the 30th.
And here we are in advance of that date, with people moaning about drivers.
Yes, the drivers may not appear right on the dot tomorrow. But anyone who ditches Vista before the 30th on the grounds of poor drivers is quite simply an imbecile. What about the MSDN people who got it in November? How do you think they managed?
I bet Gibbo wishes he hadn't bothered.
Loadsamoney said:Yeah to many Vista threads in here now, the Dons did close a few and tell everyone to post in the Vista threads that were already about, but looks like they got sick of doing that now, probably no one listened.
Gona be worse when it hits and all the '******* VISTA IS A PILE OF *****' threads turn up, theres no graphics drivers or nowt for it yet, and Gibbo rekons hes shipping it when he gets it in around the 12th, and the official date is the 30thoh what fun, this place is going to go up next week when ppl get it, but can't use it as Gibbo shipped it early before the graphics card etc... manufacturers released their Vista drivers, as they have all said they will release drivers for it before the launch, so who's to say they wont release em till the 29th, its still before the launch, trouble is Gibbos shipping it next week so he rekons, oh dear gona go up in here i tell thee, gona be a whole lot worse VISTA VISTA VISTA

Because he and OcUK released Vista early for the good of the community rather than for the good of their wallets, naturallyTute said:I bet Gibbo wishes he hadn't bothered.

But was it really worth the moaning on the forums?

UnusualSuspect said:To the OP, if you were installing something like Daemon Tools, its no wonder it fell over. Hell, that thing used to kill my XP, never mind trying to get the drivers for it running on Vista.
Daemon Tools installs something called SPTD, which ran fine until it came to restarting my computer, which caused me to run through a never ending reset loop. And that was on XP.
If you need something like Daemon Tools, go to their archive and get the really old one - it doesn't use SPTD and seems to work fine with just about everything. Not sure what the point of SPTD was in the first place.
