Hello guys. Some assistance would be appreciated.

I have an AMD64 3500, cooled by an Akasa fan Competitor removed. Using it in conjunction with an X1900XT, 2GB of Geil ram and a Gigabyte board that I can't recall the model number of at the present time.
As the title of this post suggests I'm looking to achieve a little extra performace to compliment the GPU. The CPU runs nice'n'cool at present, somewhere in the mid 30's, so I think I have a little margin for overclocking.
What kind of 'safe' overclock should I aim for without changing the cooler?

Thanks for the advice.

Rob

Do you know what core it is (Newcastle, winchester, venice etc)?

With my newcastle I've managed around 2.5Ghz. 2.4 is comfortable and for some exceptional chips 2.6 is achievable with more volts.

I really don't know much about the other cores, except they are supposed to clock better than the Newcastle ones.

If you want to know what core you have go google CPUID and download it/install it/run it.

Hello. Thank you for that. I've got a gut feeling that it is a Venice. I shall probably add 10% to the FSB and see how that goes. I'll monitor the temps and the stability.

my venice 3000+ ran at 2.78 on stock cooler hitting 46degrees. (50in the heatwaves) Never skipped a beat. Even with 2 bent pins ;)

My 3500+ venice was at 2.6 @ 305x8.5, ran prime stable, never topped 45 degrees.

it would boot into windows at 300x9.5, but would fail after about 30 mins or so, with better cooling i may have been able to achieve this.

The cooler used was an AC freezer 64 pro w/ mx-1 paste..
