Of course its not a lame attempt to get you to install Chrome. Its a bit of fun from google. Probably not much more than some engineers sideproject. I doubt they will be porting it across to other browsers just to placate the muppets saying this.

Of course it's a lame attempt to get you to install Chrome. If it doesn't work on another browser the first this it says is "Are you on a browser other than Chrome" with a big "install Chrome here" button. I doubt they produced it to placate the muppets saying it's not to promote Chrome with a pat on the head for being loyal a loyal Google fan.
