Just got my son Minecraft and he saw a Dino Mod on Youtube.

Can anyone tell me how I go about it as I don't have a clue about the game?

Sounds like the mod that is called just that..... 'Dino mod'. If it's not that it may be 'Jurassicraft' (not 100% on the spelling of that) Should be easily found with a google.

As for installing it. You need to make sure of a few things:

First being that the mod has been updated to the version of MC you have (so if you are all up to date then you have 1.3.2).

Next, you need to check the mods thread to make sure that it doesn't need any other mods to work (which as of late, quite a few do). Then usually it's is a case of extracting the mod files to the correct place.

All mods have instructions how to do this, some are simple and just require copying a zip file to a 'mods' folder but some need putting into a java executable (the minecraft .bin file).

If you go to Minecraftforums or Planetminecraft there are loads of resources to help you out (sorry, I would link but am at work and they block anything to do with Minecraft)

Good luck!

A program i find very helpful for modding is MultiMC (version 4.x). Instead of faffing around with extracting all the mods to the right place and modifying jar files you can download all the mods you like into one folder and then drag and drop the (zipped up?) mod file into one of three places. You can also very easily create lots of different mod packs with MultiMC

here's a video of how it works:

regarding mods requiring other mods, the most common mod requirement is minecraft forge. this mod is what makes hundreds of other mods work and play nicely with each other. The mod author should tell you which version you need (if any) and if any other mods are needed

Yea MultiMC can make things a hell of a lot easier. Reason I didn't suggest this though is because there are still some mods that require some kind of extraction (forestry, portal gun for example)
There is also the part of getting the mod under the right tab which may not always be clear, especially if you are brand new to MC :)

This all said, I can't see how thorough the vid posted is, so feel free to tell me to STFU if this is all explained :D
