Minecraft - Why so unpopular on here?

I've recently got back into MC and it's probably the game that has me more interested than anything at the moment.

The latest future update will even include "lush caves" and mountains, an increase in block limit upwards, new blocks, that and the existing ray tracing (in bedrock) but Java edition is where it is.

Absolutely loads of stuff to do in games, tons of exploration, if only there was a larger regular player base within the forum!

I'm mostly playing modded minecraft at the moment - which means I tend to stay away from vanilla servers.

I have a vanilla server that I run with my mates. Haven't touched it in a while but will be starting a new one when 1.17 is released.

It's not popular on here probably because of the average age difference.

Because it looks like ****.

I actually downloaded MC again yesterday mostly as I couldn't remember my sign on details for it.

I installed the SEUS shader (I've heard Sildur is also really good) and it looks fantastic. Well, as fantastic as a blocky game can be but it does look really good. Killed my FPS though. Went from 370 to 80fps

There is already a server on here by @haaammit and I'm not sure about mods but it seems to have a lot of things you can do to the point I wonder what mods I'd need really.

Also as above SEUS Shaders, the game looks immense when you add texture packs, you're never going to get rid of the "blockyness" but why would you? That's part of minecraft.

My friend recommended I tried ChromaHills but the download links weren't working.

I always used to go for the cartoon texture packs as they made the blocky look a lot softer

I liked it a few years ago when it was a simpler game. I lost interest when they started adding more and more stuff.

And having RTX is nice and all, but having 2 versions of the game that aren't both the same is baffling.

I lost so many hours to it when it first came out. It was just really fresh and a fun game to play in a group whilst off exploring. Made a nice change of pace from DayZ which we played a lot at the time

This. As a alpha/beta 'mindfulness exercise' just piddling around on a vanilla, pre-zombie world, digging holes, building monuments, listening to the great, subdued music, and sometimes loading up those crazy Star Trek type creations, was fun. But the more of a game it became, the more options it offered, the less interest I had. I did have a look at the ray tracing version last year, but it took me longer to remember my login and work out which version I owned than I spent playing.

But then I am 57, which is a good age to be collecting ketchup bottles; not such a good age to be investing time in a mainly multiplayer kids' experience. :-)

I wouldn't call it a "kids" game just because it appeals to kids. People of all ages have creativity, not just kids.

Agreed, there is so much diversity in MC and what it can do, I think it has it's own sub genres if you like. For example I like to play it by making complex contraptions and machines as a survival game, however my son only really plays the pvp type mini battle games.

Agreed, the server I run the youngest is, I think late 20's, while the oldest is mid 60's - it is modded though so there is some more complexity to it over vanilla. Though if you get deep in to redstone then MC still does offer a lot of complexity. I know from talking to a few people at work who only know of it because of their kids playing creative / adventure don't realise the depth it has. Though I must admit to struggling to play vanilla for too long these days hence the modded server.

I do think there's quite a few people who play it but between different version and modpacks, some preferring single player worlds, others on small servers etc. everyone is split up and while there are reasonably regular updates the game is however many years and like any not new game, the threads get quieter and then lost in the many pages of this forum.

I tens to jump back to it every couple of years or so.

I can sink a good few hours into it before it comes a bit samey and I get bored.
