Minecraft in it's very early days, the Java edition in late 2009 / 2010 was fantastic.
When there was no help pages e.g. mincraft wiki for crafting so it was mainly guess work and recording what made what. Shovels, Axe, Pickaxes etc. I seem to remember having a piece of paper with things I had made often my mistake. The torch was a game changer, allowing discovery of caves which had previously been too dark to explore. Then finding you could make a ladder and many many other things.
At my peak of playing I was whitelisted on a server and had a specific task, mining diamonds in caves. I had to stop playing cold turkey and deleted the game when I spent one night / morning mining diamonds from 10pm - 6am. I only realised when I had to be up for work in 1 hour and I was still in caves mining away! It was addictive as hell.
I did try getting the RTX version running years later but couldnt get it working. Might try it again because it does look nice. Most kids play the creative mode, which seems pointless to me but guess it is kids playing so wont kow how to craft. The crafting part was the most interesting and it got very complicated e.g. this sort of thing... I way all about the mining
It was so easy when it was the Java edition.
Now i've signed in, downloaded 'MinecraftInstaller.exe' for Windows 10 but am them directed to the Windows store 'Minecraft Launcher' selecting play shows
'Minecraft Launcher is currently not available in your account. Make sure you are signed in to the Microsoft Store and try again. Here's the error code, in case you need it: 0x803F8001'
I am however signed into Windows store and other apps work fine.
All this for a game I paid for many years ago and what appears to be additional steps to jump through because it's now so lucrative.
edit. I got it working but from what I can see after signing into the Minecraft launcher I have to buy Minecraft for Windows, but the Minecraft Java edition (1.18.2) is available to play.
Is it not the same game?
It appears Minecraft RTX is only available for the Windows version
Is Minecraft with Ray Tracing Free?
Yes! Players who own Minecraft for Windows can experience ray tracing for free as part of the 1.16.200 game update. Please note that you must meet the minimum technical requirements to experience some of these new features.
The 'starter collection' Windows version says base game, 700 minecoins (what the hell are these?)
Base Game 'Minecraft essentials' is $26.99. How does this differ from the Java version exactly. Sounds like a scam to me
