Minecraft - Why so unpopular on here?

I played it for a while with my daughter, but I just have no interest in the creative side of it. I like playing survival where you at least get some form of challenge whilst building something.

To me the game is about creativity and I'm well beyond that for virtual stuff that looks like a 2000's game. I'm a physically creative person, I tinker a lot. I just started CAD/CAM design, and I end up with something physical for my efforts.

I have just started playing Minecraft survival mode for the first time with my 5 year old Daughter and am loving it. It is the first game we have played together where we both like it and offers us both a challenge. I find it strange after getting into it, that people call it a kids game. It seems to me that Minecraft is seriously mechanically deep.

I got a phone holding clip attachment for my Xbox controller and I play on my phone and my Daughter plays on the Xbox which is working out great. I can also play whilst waiting in the car when she is at her after school clubs. An hour passes in a flash whilst I am playing.

Although the game is basically ancient at this point, it is definitely my game of the year and I doubt anything will beat it.

It has evolved quite a lot since the first few years (and availability of modifiers to the base game) - which is what a lot of people's opinion of it will be based on, though I would still err towards mostly calling it a kids game as that is broadly what the base game appeal is built around.

Is this just a texture pack? In short, my 10 year old is in tears. He spent some of his birthday money on this and said it doesn't give any new ores or tools...simply skins them.

He is annoyed as in the java edition he does this for free. And in the bedrock edition he expected what it said. New ores and new things to craft.

I know nothing about Minecraft add-ons etc...

What's the deal? Over sold texture pack?

Hard to tell tbh from that link, if they are skins of do more. Says vehicles too, and it looks like someone is in one. AFAIK there are free mods for Bedrock, though I have no idea how you use them as I never bothered to try.
In all honesty, Java is generally what you want to play. Unless you want vanilla or controller support - then bedrock is probably better.

Minecraft is a phenomenon its only a seen as solely a kids game in the minds of people who have not looked into it more deeply. Just look at all the Youtube videos. Personally I dont play it but my kids do every so often with their cousins and they have a blast.

You can also use it with VR https://www.minecraft.net/en-us/vr (also works with the Quest 2 if you google it) and Minecraft even has ray tracing. https://www.minecraft.net/en-us/updates/ray-tracing

Minecraft in it's very early days, the Java edition in late 2009 / 2010 was fantastic.
When there was no help pages e.g. mincraft wiki for crafting so it was mainly guess work and recording what made what. Shovels, Axe, Pickaxes etc. I seem to remember having a piece of paper with things I had made often my mistake. The torch was a game changer, allowing discovery of caves which had previously been too dark to explore. Then finding you could make a ladder and many many other things.

At my peak of playing I was whitelisted on a server and had a specific task, mining diamonds in caves. I had to stop playing cold turkey and deleted the game when I spent one night / morning mining diamonds from 10pm - 6am. I only realised when I had to be up for work in 1 hour and I was still in caves mining away! It was addictive as hell.

I did try getting the RTX version running years later but couldnt get it working. Might try it again because it does look nice. Most kids play the creative mode, which seems pointless to me but guess it is kids playing so wont kow how to craft. The crafting part was the most interesting and it got very complicated e.g. this sort of thing... I way all about the mining :)

It was so easy when it was the Java edition.
Now i've signed in, downloaded 'MinecraftInstaller.exe' for Windows 10 but am them directed to the Windows store 'Minecraft Launcher' selecting play shows

'Minecraft Launcher is currently not available in your account. Make sure you are signed in to the Microsoft Store and try again. Here's the error code, in case you need it: 0x803F8001'

I am however signed into Windows store and other apps work fine.

All this for a game I paid for many years ago and what appears to be additional steps to jump through because it's now so lucrative.
edit. I got it working but from what I can see after signing into the Minecraft launcher I have to buy Minecraft for Windows, but the Minecraft Java edition (1.18.2) is available to play.
Is it not the same game?

It appears Minecraft RTX is only available for the Windows version

Is Minecraft with Ray Tracing Free?
Yes! Players who own Minecraft for Windows can experience ray tracing for free as part of the 1.16.200 game update. Please note that you must meet the minimum technical requirements to experience some of these new features.

The 'starter collection' Windows version says base game, 700 minecoins (what the hell are these?)

Base Game 'Minecraft essentials' is $26.99. How does this differ from the Java version exactly. Sounds like a scam to me

Try uninstalling it and install the launcher straight from the MS Store instead.
Its working after Reset Microsoft Store Cache, Uninstall and Reinstall Microsoft Gaming Services - https://www.thewindowsclub.com/fix-minecraft-launcher-error-0x803f8001
Java version is available but Windows version is paid extra

Its much easier now with the build in recipe book. Had a quick go and there's still something great about finding a few raw materials, making a crafting table, furnace and moving on to build a hut / shelter and going on to survive a few nights in hardcore mode. I think i'll not do this though as before I know it, i'll be making diamond pick axes again and venturing into caves for hours looking for gems

Had my fun from it back when it was still in beta, we had a server running for over a year but their is only so many times you can rebuild a city / map without it becoming the same old same old.
