Just announced that this game is coming to next gen consoles and Vita in August this year.

Xbox One

Minecraft: Xbox One Edition will be released on Xbox Live Marketplace in August. It brings significantly bigger worlds and a greater draw distance than Xbox 360 Edition.
It will include all the features from the most recent Xbox 360 title update.
Minecraft: Xbox One Edition will cost $19.99.
If you’ve bought Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition from Xbox Live Marketplace, or played online with the disc version, you will be able to upgrade to Xbox One Edition for $4.99.
You will be able to upgrade for a minimum of a year after the release date.
Players with Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition saves will be able to import their worlds to Xbox One. Unfortunately, you won’t be able to transfer saves from Xbox One to Xbox 360. We can make worlds bigger without too much stress, but shrinking them causes all kinds of problems.
Cross platform play will not be possible between Xbox 360 and Xbox One.
Many, but not all, of the DLC skins and texture packs you’ve purchased for Xbox 360 Edition will be available for use in Xbox One Edition. We’d like to say all your DLC would transfer, but some of the items are trapped in licensing deals that are too boring to get into here. We’ll have more on this soon.

PS3 VITA

Minecraft: Playstation 3 + Vita Edition will be available on the PSN in August.
It will include all the features from the most recent Playstation 3 version, including online play, on Vita.
If you’ve bought Minecraft: Playstation 3 Edition from PSN you’ll be able to upgrade for free.
We are working closely with Sony Computer Entertainment to look into ways to enable upgrade from the Blu-ray disc version of Minecraft: Playstation 3 Edition to Minecraft: Playstation 3 and Vita. We’ll have more info on this closer to release.
This means everyone who has bought Minecraft: Playstation 3 Edition from PSN will get it on Vita for free. Those fluent in Sony-speak might refer to the deal as “Cross-buy.”
Minecraft: Playstation 3 + Vita Edition will cost $19.99.
It doesn’t matter if you buy for PS3 or Vita first, you own the game for both platforms.
Saves are transferrable between the Playstation 3 and Vita versions of Minecraft. You will be able to craft at home on your Playstation 3, then continue on the bus/toilet with your Playstation Vita.
All of the DLC you’ve purchased for Minecraft: Playstation 3 Edition will work on Playstation 3 + Vita Edition.

PS4

Minecraft: Playstation 4 Edition will be released on the PSN in August. It brings significantly bigger worlds and a greater draw distance than Playstation 3 + Vita Edition.
It will include all the features from the most recent Playstation 3 version.
Minecraft: Playstation 4 Edition will cost $19.99.
If you’ve Playstation 3 Edition from the Playstation Network you will be able to upgrade for $4.99.
You will be able to upgrade for a minimum of a year after the release date.

Unfortunately, you won’t be able to transfer your saves from Playstation 4 to Playstation 3/Vita. I have been holding off buying this on my 360 due to knowing of the next gen version.

I will be picking this up for me to mess around with and let the kids have a go. Really got the Minecraft bug on my PS3.

Have never understood the fascination with this game.... Just don't get it.

Basically it is like cocaine for kids. IF you watch your kids play it you become sucked into the addiction.

It's all my kids talk about, it's all my kids friends at school talk about, they sit for hours on their iPads playing it, it's great for their imagination.

For 360 users, could you buy a second hand copy of minecraft, play online then upgrade on the one for $4.99. Depending on the price of the second hand, you might be able to save on it?

Never really understood it either, I played it a bit in alpha and it was kind of interesting for a week or so until the novelty wore off. I know a few people who are totally clued to it though worse even than a WoW addiction and don't understand it at all.

Lol.

That's probably why I don't get it then. Because I'm too old.

All we hear at home is "Next time I go on Minecraft......." "This block...." "The end..." "The Nether...." "The Ender Dragon....." "So and so at school said you can build.....", it's got to the point that even my GF (who is not a massive gamer) is going to make a world on their iPad to build a world and see what it is all about.

Excellent news on the reduced price upgrade front :)

Me & a few friends built an absolutely epic world, will be good to revisit it

Quoted for truth.

Lol. Sounds like a crazy game. It's clear why the little ones love it!

Awesome! I was a late to the MineCraft party, getting the 360 as a Christmas present last year, but I am absolutely psyched for this. Will download as soon as it's available.

For quite a few months I have played Minecraft on the 360 and throroughly enjoyed it, but I think I expected more from the Xbox One version. I was hoping for actual open servers etc like the PC. I don't think this will be the case from what I can see?

I was hoping for a little more as well, like you I was hoping it would be near identical to the PC version.

Yeh this still hasn't tempted me to buy an Xbox One again having sold it. Looks like I will have to wait for something else!

Definitely think they've missed a trick but it probably doesn't help that they are focusing on Sony platforms as well.
