Hey all,

My little boys birthday son and he had asked us for minecraft (9yrs old) as "everybody else has it" - lol

Any ideas on best place to get it? Any add ons I should get?

Thanks for any help!
 
Yeah could go the eBay route... although should anything happen to that key you would have an upset 9 year old.

Having got a 10 year old Minecraft fan myself, any loss of access is the end of the world lol

I take it it can only be purchased online then? Was hoping for a box and cd for him to open - lol!

£5 though? No excuse not to buy!
 
Well worth the full price in my opinion, I don't play it myself but between my 3 and my Fiancee's boy it gets a lot of use (and a lot more if I would let them!!).
 
I have a 7 year old MC fan here. on the ipad, the world he has created himself is pretty epic. its pretty retro looking as in really blocky but the kids dont seem to care.
 
If you have younger kids I'd recommend Toca Builders (IOS and hopefully soon Android) as it's brilliantly made. My toddler loves it.

Might move her onto Minecraft in a few years but she's only 3 next month ;)
 
One of the discussions you are going to have to have with him is online play.

The only way for him to play with his friends from school (who i presume he means by "everybody else" is by an online gaming server.

These are open to public. which includes adults. Adults who may be not particularly nice to 9 year olds. It may not be anything serious, but most 9 year olds won't take being shouted out and sworn at by strange adults on the internet.

So I'd be asking if he intends to play the game with them, and if so what server are they going on. Has somebody set them up with their own server, or are other parents just buying the game and then just letting them loose on the net.

I suspect the latter. The server versions of minecraft are dead easy to setup and there are loads of guides on how to do it. I'd really consider setting up a server for them to play on thats passworded if you have a suitable desktop spare (won't take more than your average office machine to run a server for 4/5 people)
 
Let him get used to classic Minecraft, then when he's bored of what he can do give him Feed the Beast package as these are a series of mods rolled into one package that you can easily install via a single loader.

This opens the game up to so many options all the way to making nukes and nuclear reactors for power supply.
 
My son loves mine craft on Xbox but I have given him my old PC so he wants it on PC is there a decent guide to show my how to setup a mincraft server for him and his mates?
 
I have two boys, an 8yr old and a 6yr old. My 8yr old is pretty much a Minecraft nut. I paid $26 for the PC ver directly from mojang.com. They also have it on the xbox360, and on the iPad. But the PC ver gets to see the most use. Actually last week, i had to cough up for a 2nd copy, so that my 6 yr old could join into the online worlds that the 8yr old has been obsessing over. He plays online, downloads all the maps, and asks me every other day about getting him a mod. He also loves watching the youtubes and being part of the minecraft community.

What I like about it, is its teaching him the PC quite well, and he's now a whizz on the keyboard. He's been doing his own resource packs, and downloading maps. So getting a good idea of pc directory structure.

I have NO IDEA, on what exactly what the attraction is. I've asked, and left confused. All i know is that they love it, and it seems pretty harmless.
