Mini fridge needed for my Uni room.

make sure they know that if you catch them, it's gonna hurt. The threat alone is usually more than adequate.

Worked for me, and I shared a flat with quite a few different people over the years.

Why aren't people allowed fridges in accomodation they are paying for in the first place? So much for independence at uni when you have to put up with restrictions like that, do they search your rooms as well?

So are you not allowed any electrical items in your room at all then?

All electrical items have to meet safety standards to be sold in the uk, the people that make these rules must be stupid. You'd have more freedom living in your parents house than living at uni by the sounds of things.

Pretty much.

At work (uni) we have to have all electrical appliances (including phone chargers) checked before we can use them in the office.

Just nick their milk as well, don't be so petty.
If it was alcohol I could understand but it's milk and juice, i'd share mine, i'd share theirs too.

I'm happy to let my housemates use my milk but its not really on when you have an unopened two pint of milk and between friday and sunday its all gone(I believe its just one guy as the other one buys his own and only drink proper milk and not semi-skimmed).
I share all my stuff with my housemates but there is this one guy(the one I believe drank my milk)that doesnt buy any juice, eggs, etc but just take mine,I had a word with him before but he keeps doing this.

Yep, the people who make the rules at unis really need their heads examining. Our uni dive club couldn't get BSAC accreditation last year as the uni rules were considered dangerous by BSAC. It's the same in quite a few other clubs, where the uni believes it knows best (over the official governing bodies, such as the RYA in sailing).

I HATE living with cheap ******* students at uni

The number of times my bread/milk/juice/cereal/beer/clean cutlery/plates/glasses disappeared...

There was a couple of times I bought a whole 24-crate of coronas and left them outside so they stayed cold. I went home for the weekend, came back and fancied having one, and they were ALL GONE, though they left the empty crate there. That crate had cost me a fair bit of cash. WTF?

I actually think they use the fire safety thing as an excuse to save their electricity bill! Yeah we get room inspections but it's well worth the awesome experience that is living in halls

I made up for it by folding 24/7 :p

Beware, the ones with the clear glass front door are really coolers. Get a proper white fridge which is the same size as that. If its new, it will be colder (so you can store milk properly), have an ice box (for ice cubes) and have an A+ energy rating. They are very quiet too. I had one in my room (halls) at uni for a year and it was fab. I am quite a light sleeper and have 0 problems with this.

Leaving a crate of frosty coronas outside, unattended, for an entire weekend + Students = Bye bye drinkies...

Simple science :)

It's obvious why they won't let you have your own fridge....

If everyone had one, that's probably going to exceed the amount of electricty available for each room.

Every electrical item owned by the university will be reguarly inspected, a fridge in your room is not.

I had a proper small fridge in my room at home once. The thing decided to die which leaked coolant all over the carpet. Could just as easily happen in a uni room, some of which are left unattended during holidays.

If you are with housemates you get on with, the best option is to get some kind of milk rota going. If you want to keep you own milk, just get a mini thermoelectric fridge, you really don't need a proper small fridge.

In winter just leave the milk on your window still outside (out of direct sunlight) doesnt taste too bad :p
