Mini Hi-Fi advice

You're on to quite advanced settings there for the home market! I presume your amp is pretty high end and could be used with THX reference style cinema speakers rather than simple hi-fi speakers if desired...

Good amplifiers have no need for a impedence selector switch. In fact, you'll find those switches on lower end AVR's.

Yamaha's have poor output power, once you start connecting up all speakers power output really drops by a considerable margin.

Just buy it and thank me later :)

Eltax Liberty have 4-8ohm rating, the same as the Tannoy DC6 SE and CA SL30 i've had on it. Both sound decent and go loud enough!

Oh it's bought thank you! Should be here friday for testing hopefully.
Was asking the further questions to try and understand this more complicated side of what should be semi simple electronics! It is interesting stuff, as seemingly even most of the pros don't quite get it, just go on connecting expensive things to expensive things and saying yeah "it's good" I like to get into the science...

Fair enough! I guess I haven't delved into the advanced settings as deeply as you have! The majority of people wouldn't ever need to touch the impedance setting I wouldn't think.

I didn't either but I had to go into the advanced settings to get 10 bit 4K to work. For some reason from the factory they are set to accept 4K 8 bit only. Found out why by googling. So once I was in there I looked at the other options. it's not a part of the menu I advise anyone to go into you can ruin the amp in these deep advanced settings.

I can recommend the Cambridge Audio One. I have one driving some CA SL30's in my Kitchen/Diner and it had plenty of punch but the speakers are definitely holding it back. I managed to get a perfect condition 'refurb' on the bay for ~170.

The whole thing feels well thought out and it handily has a USB out to power a Chromecast. DAB is quick to navigate and sounds great.

indeed Looks nice
with the Chromecast input, do you connect it optically to the Cambridge audio one or connnect to rca inputs ?
(is the audio one's dac noticeably better,or any sync problems driving optical, other pros/cons)

I can vouch for the Cambridge audio one. i run mine with CA Minx XL bookshelf speakers and a CA Minx x201 subwoofer.

one thing the One doesnt do tho is continous playback when playing cd. there is a pause between each track.

Unfortunately I cant comment on that because I didn't have an RCA cable suitable. Mine being in a kitchen isn't the best placed acoustically so i haven't laboured over it (unlike the living room!). I would bet that the DAC on the CA One was better however due to it being geared for DAB and digital media such as MP3's as its primary purpose.
