mini-ITX HTPC build opinions

While I have a little cash from Cheltenham, want to complete my HTPC upgrade. I am currently using a Gen7 N54L which can house 4 3.5" drives so need a build that can do the same or similar. Finding a mini-ITX case that can do this is proving tricky but the Node 304 seems to be able to with the right cable management and PSU (this build in particular). The parts I am unsure about are the HSF and motherboard, they aren't that many mini-ITX B350 boards (preferably one with a type-c connector) it seems so looking for some recommendations.

Lol doh, completely missed the Ryzen came with a HSF :o. @ExoMale, why that memory? Would the Ryzen not benefit from faster memory or can the 3000 be overclocked easily?.

Edit - will the Gigabyte board support a 2400G out of the box?

no board will support APU out the box without that tool thing, but all boards do support APU from what has been said, its just that kit thing you need.

admit-tingly i didnt see you chose faster ram, but i always pick 3000mhz ram for builds as its the minimum for am4/coffeelake, i was just assuming a budget of £600 from from what you put in your opening post.
 
Budget isn't too much of a problem as a good £200-300 will be coming off the sale of old parts. Did some research and it seems the Season G Series is better suited to this case due to its placement of its modular connectors. Gone with the more expensive Team Group 8Pack memory, want the APU fed well and minimal tinkering.

What tool are you talking about? Fortunately I have a 1700, just can't be bothered taking it out if an alternative solution exists.

theres some kit you need thats been mentioned on the forum for the APU to work, but if you got a 1700, then just buy the itx board and a gt1030, dont waste money on an apu.
 
The 1700 is for my main rig, bar firing up my APU, it's staying where it is. APU is to upgrade my HTPC. That should be done for computer upgrades for the next few years :).
 
Would that team group memory work with the NHl8x65 as it seems to have highish heat-spreaders?
seems a good price for 16gb of ddr4 3000 too ...
Plus I would say 450w is well overspecced for an apu (no gfx card) 250w would do it nicely
 
If your gaming on it , 3200 Hz, if kit using as a non gaming system, id just sink 2400hz kit in, think 16gb team group is like £140 . Heck would even just use 8GB :)

Ryzen is effect by higher ram speed, specially with CPU intense application or gaming but Vega iGPU is effected even more .
