If I want to go mini ITX what are my options motherboard wise? I would prefer to to Sandybridge and even more preferrably p67 or z68, but all I see are zotac boards which I gather are generally viewed with suspicion around these parts. Are there any other sandybridge ITX boards?

Get the Gigabyte H67. There are no P67 ITX boards and the Z68 boards (ASRock and Zotac) are buggy at best and a total failure at worst. Gigabyte have the best SB offering. ASUS is ok but a bit limited unless you want to use SO-DIMMs (laptop memory). So get the Gigabyte H67. It is stable, well supported and an excellent board.

Where are these Gigabyte mini-ITX boards of which you speak?

Micro-ATX I can see but not mini-ITX.

I'm musing over a Foxconn H67 board atm.

Mind you I have fairly unique requirements for it, can't OC, need CPU and mobo power header to be in a certain spot... or cooling and cabling will cause issues.

However I've also noted that two separate reviews have found that it won't do 1333Mhz with their memory, only 1066Mhz which at least suggests it doesn't support a number of brands to do 1333Mhz.

Do NOT get the Foxconn. It is utter ****e. I have it atm and i could not recommend it less. only 1066MHz memory. Max turbo 3.3GHz. Literally no customer support. Only 3 x SATA ports, no USB 3.0. I got it because it was cheap to keep me going till a Z68 board came out but I am regretting not getting the Gigabyte H67 as the Z68 boards are also ****e.

There's also the Intel DH67CF, not sure how good/bad it is though.

Doesnt the DH67CF only officially support 65W CPUs though? I mean a 95W will work fine but if it breaks you dont have a leg to stand on.

Also it is more expensive than the Gigabyte (£90 for the Intel vs £80 for the Gigabyte) but doesn't seem to offer any more features.

Meh, if push came to shove, simply tell Intel it broke with a 2100T in there or something.

I just wondered if it was a half decent board, as Intel tend to make underwhelming, but generally reliable, motherboards.

I think you would be able to do one big RAID with all 6. I don't see why not. But dont quote me on that.

Its why I was tempted to go gigabyte and just get a raid card TBH I know it will be expensive anyway so I'm not overly bothered in that regard.
all I need is a case that will take that many hard disks but be small enough >_> and yes does anyone know of a reasonable one?
I have been taking a look at the Highpoint RocketRAID 2680 used in the black dwarf would this be right? would it work in the x16?

Tiny case. Looks good. Holds 6 x 3.5" HDDs.

Or this http://www.lian-li.com/v2/en/product/product06.php?pr_index=584&cl_index=1&sc_index=25&ss_index=64&g=f
Bit bigger. Still looks good. Holds 7 x 3.5" HDDs.

Cheers.

I don't need more than 3 sata (two of them are sata6) and USB3 isn't that useful for me.

But I don't think I can be bothered buying a board which seems incapable of running 1333mhz memory.
