Just wondering now that we see NoteBooks with Sli MXM Nvidia gfx, surely someone could a duo core PC the size of a Mac Mini(maybe a little bigger) with an MXM gfx port?

or has this been already done

Why would they want to do that? The price increase over a desktop would be huge. If people want portability they get a laptop, if they don't they get a desktop. Also not many hardcore PC users would sacrifice upgradability for a smaller PC.

thats like saying why would anyone want a mac mini to begin with

the portability for lan partys would be awesome :D

besides I thought the whole idea behind computer technology was to make things more powerful yet smaller

But theres also a time to stop.

I won't think computer parts will get that much smaller for desktop purely because if you want more power, the larger the parts usually are.

Laptops arent as powerful as desktops for a reason :).

But chances are you're going to have to take a monitor and a load of peripherals along as well. Straight away the whole advantage of portability is gone. Besides, you're probably going to transport your rig to a LAN party via car anyway; and how difficult is it to lug a desktop computer to your car and back? If the LAN part is only down the road, you can just lug your desktop along...

P.S. UKTopGun, your sig is too big. See the FAQ...

It can't just be me that actually likes having a nice, impressive tower case...is it? I see so many people obsessing over stuff like the iMac, but it's all a bit too "simple" for me. Kind of spoils it.

You can always go for the mATX, slightly bigger than the "mini Macs" but siginificantly smaller for LAN parties if you so wish.

I personally will mostly likely got for an mATX build with watercooling in a Aspire Qpack LAN case for my Conroe build.

You can get mini itx sized motherboards that work with core duo cpu's and have a pci express x16 slot. Haven't seen any cases of that size that would fit a high end video card in though.

Shuttle's X100 has both core Duo and MXM slot. It's about the size of a Mac Mini and looks a bit like an oldschool NES. Don't think it's out yet but it's definitely gonna cost a bomb
