Mini or Fiesta ST

They're 197bhp for all intents and purposes, it's just that it's an 'overboost' feature that gives you full power for 15 seconds when booting it. To reset it you just lift off and boot it again. That's why the performance is so similar to the Pug 208 GTI and RS Clio despite being 20bhp 'down.

Is there not a "cooldown" period?

Nope. I'm not sure why they didn't just give the full amount. Maybe to keep insurance costs down so people aren't put off buying them, or to keep the figures far enough away from the Focus. Mountune MP215 kit gives a constant 215bhp and the only change is a different air box and a remap.

Thanks for the clarification :)

Sounds plausible. The manual versions of my car have an overboost function but theres a time on it (cant remember how long) - presumably to stop it melting something!

Probably a way of cheating emissions tests tbh :P

But it will also slightly improve MPG in normal driving. You can get over 50 on a long motorway cruise, even with the MT upgrades installed.

If you want comfort dont buy a mini, if you want fun buy a mini.

Mini will holds its value ST will not

Also buy a post 2010 mini as the N14 engine is rubbish

Yeah the economy is darn good if you drive carefully. The mini is fun, but not as much as the Fiesta and there are lots of things that niggle like the annoying electric window switches (tricky to use and stupid place).

The overboost lasts 20 seconds and to be honest, if you can keep your foot planted for 20 seconds you will be doing stupid speeds!

Actually, that's quite a good idea, drop the boost when motorway cruising.

Now I just need to remember to throttle of and on again to "overtake".

Really

A works mini are still stupid prices, an ST is not

Yea you can almost have a Focus RS for specced up Works Mini money. No contest there :/

Plus an RS will barely loose any value (and then start appreciating) if it's anything like the mk2.

I do like that, but I meant for the OP :)

I'm not sure a GP2 would come into budget though!

If the OP wants something a little raw and different. Then I too would suggest the GP1. I test drove one shortly before ditching my Corsa VXR. And I absolutely loved it... That SC engine just pulls and pulls. And the sound!!!!

For me fun is in the handling and the Mini is much better than the ST (which is good) at it.

On bumpy roads the ST is better than the Mini IMHO.

The Fiesta hangs on like a limpet and the steering is amazing with a really good self centring effect for fast direction changes.

The mini is slightly more Kart like and being lower down adds to the experience.

Dealing with traffic queues in the Fiesta makes you feel godlike, I was following 5 cars behind a concrete mixer who were getting very bunched and getting past them was like being on the motorway :D

Yep, it's nice to have piles of torque on tap in such a light car. The power is just there all the time, it makes the car feel a lot more powerful that it is.
