Hey I'm looking to replace my 6 year old desktop tower PC now, its pretty much dying and making a tremendous amount of noise! I was looking to build my own PC but not sure if i want to have another huge tower next to me :(

I came across the acer revo r3610, small and compact perfect for uni student with little room aha but i was wondering if its advisable to be using the r3610 on a daily basis to do the usual web surfing/word/playing 1080p mkvs and the occasional photoshop/video editing? i know its mainly designed for HTPC but worth a shot?

I know its possible to build your own small pc, but i wouldnt know where to start for cases etc...preferably size of dell zino?

Any help really would be appreciated!

Thanks.

The Acer will be crippled by the Atom CPU.

How about a Mac mini? You should get a nice discount being a student.

Lol crippled you say, fair enough might stay away then.

Don't really like macs tbh, searching on this forum i found this and its a pretty nice setup, looking to create something along those lines if possible.

Or anything thats already pre-made around the £300-£400.

The Acer would be fine for every day work, but when you come to the photoshop/premier then you're going to struggle.

Depends on your budget. As you've seen you can build yourself a very nice little box though they won't be as small as the zino or mini. It is possible to do this, but anything more powerful than an ION setup will struggle with cooling.

Something like a Morex 2777 / 3833 or Antec ISK300 would allow a nice thin setup while providing you to put a dedicated card in and could fit nicely to the back of your screen if you wanted.

oh hai :D

i built that box to replace a 3610 and it blows it to bits (as youd expect really). easily within your budget too.
