i am looking into buying a mini now to keep me going untill i go to oz next october, i've always wanted a classic mini.

i am aware that they tend to rust a lot, so am being very picky about what one i eventually buy.

what are your thoughts on this one above? personally im thinking its overpriced but wouldnt mind some other thoughts.

:)

I looks well but for that kinda money you have a pick of hundreds out there.

It has a metro 1.3 engine with no mods and has some rust starting to show in places. Also who knows whats hiding under that bodykit. Sills are one of the main rust areas on minis and they could be rotten under there, even though he states that the sills are solid.

Go and view the car and if you can, take someone with you who knows about minis.

Still, i have seen worse minis go for more money

I spent a lot of time looking at minis before I got mine. I ended up with the first of the injection models (which is basically the Carb unit replaced with a single point injection, making very little difference), a 1992 Rover Cooper in BRG with white roof and stripes for £1700.

If you are willing to look to more recent models you are more likely to get a good price, in a lot of cases. The A Series engine had very very minor revisions in it's time so a 1990s Rover model will be essentially the same as a 1980s Austin one.

We had a couple of rust problems on the underside of the car and near a jacking point, but a quick bit of welding the underside is right as rain. Got some slight bubbling on drivers door now but it's not major at all, will be replaced one day.

The Zeemax kits are stupid imo, wouldn't ever touch one myself, if an owner molests the car like that I don't want any part of it.

I can't drive the car on the roads yet, but on the airfield days I've done it's been good fun, can't fault the car once we got a few engine niggles sorted (mainly a loose cable causing sudden power loss occasionally).

The 13" wheels on the two you are looking at, while looking very nice, make the steering rather heavy and somewhat ruin the handling. Plus to fit them to all cars apart from 1996+ MPI Sportspacks, some of the inner arch will have been removed.

The second one is somewhere in Norwich with me, never seen it about though, looks very good but due to the amount that has been done to it, the price will be high.

Any questions feel free to ask :)

thats great thanks for the info.

well like i said with that one being so far away its not like i can just go take a look :(

i decided that ideally i do want a older mini, such are 1980 and older, but have started looking at the newer 1994 etc but i just dont feel the same about them. with next year being the 50th year, i want a nice example that we can keep in the family for a long time :)

i just cant find any close to where i live that are in good condition :(

HXC can you think of any other sites to try looking for minis? appart from the 2 i have been using?

cant find many for sale on the mini clubs :(

just found this one on that site.

seems very very nice, and its in my budget

Not to my taste, don't like the raised bonnet or silly arches, but it looks in good nick from that photo.

Careful of the roof on that, looks like a material one? the material shrinks and costs far too much to buy.

i was planning on putting the bonnet back to normal. can see it being to hard to do.

as for the arches i quiet like them :P

i didnt know that about the material. how do you check that? it looks ok from the other pics.
